What waiting actually costs, in real dollars.

At 60: about $63 a month.
At 65: about $79 a month.
At 70: about $108 a month.
At 75: about $147 a month, and now the guaranteed-issue plans start to become the only option, most of which are 2-year graded (limited payout in the first two years).

'I will get to it in a few years' is the single most expensive line I hear at kitchen tables. Not because I am selling urgency, but because the actuarial math does not care about our intentions.

Sunday reset. Three families in El Paso and Las Cruces got approved this week, and I want to name what changed for each one, because 'we help families' means nothing without the specifics.

1. A 62 year old husband in northeast El Paso. Term life ran out last November and he thought he was uninsurable now. Foresters approved him Tuesday. $50,000. $47 a month.

2. A 71 year old widow in Las Cruces. Wanted just enough to cover her cremation and not leave her daughter with the bill. Royal Neighbors, $10,000, $68 a month. Approved Thursday morning.

3. A 58 year old couple in the Lower Valley. Both non-smokers. Both approved through Mutual of Omaha for $25,000 each. Combined premium: $114 a month.

This was Saturday morning, coffee still hot, phone call from a gentleman in central El Paso.

Here is what actually happened. I ran his profile through three carriers on my screen while he was on the line. Mutual of Omaha came back at $86 a month for $10,000 of final expense. Royal Neighbors came back at $94. Foresters came back at $79.

No medical exam. Approved the same afternoon.

Here is why I open three tabs, not one.

62 year old non-smoker in El Paso, mild high blood pressure controlled with medication. This week:
Mutual of Omaha: $61 a month, no medical exam, same-day decision. Royal Neighbors of America: $58 a month, no exam, few extra health questions. Foresters Financial: $67 a month, no exam, includes a small hospital benefit add-on.

If I only worked with one carrier, this family would have paid $9 more every month for the rest of their life. Over 20 years that is about $2,160.
