🚨TAKE ACTION: Protect American Beef Production 🚨

Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois Beef Association are asking you to urge Congress and the White House to protect American beef production.

An additional 660 million pounds of foreign beef is set to enter the U.S. over just 90 days at prices 25% below market value, undercutting producers.

Now is not the time. Farmers need long-term market stability, allowing producers to rebuild the U.S. cattle herd, increase American beef production and ensure consumers have access to a safe, abundant and affordable food supply.

Please slow down and share the road.

The Slow Moving Vehicle emblem means the farm equipment travels at a slow speed.

Tips for Motorists:
⚠️Pay attention and do not drive distracted.
⚠️Slow down when encountering slow moving vehicles. Flashing amber lights mean “CAUTION!”.
⚠️Pass with extreme caution.
⚠️Allow extra room when following farm equipment.
⚠️It is illegal to pass in a no passing zone or within 100 feet of an intersection.
⚠️Be patient. A farmer cannot always move over to let motorists pass.
⚠️If you cannot see the driver, the driver cannot see you. Farm machinery operators may not be able to see you because of the large equipment or a load can block part of their rear view.

What does the road look like from the driver’s seat of a combine?

This week, area driver’s education students got the chance to find out—and learned some eye-opening lessons about sharing the road with farm equipment!

The Effingham County Farm Bureau Young Farmers hosted a Rural Road Safety Seminar for students from Dieterich High School and St. Anthony High School. Students climbed into a combine, sprayer and semi to experience firsthand just how limited visibility can be from the operator’s seat. They also heard from Deputy Lustig with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Dept. about many hazards of driving on rural roads.

The experience gave students a whole new perspective on why slowing down, staying alert and giving farm equipment plenty of space can make all the difference when traveling on rural roads.

A special thank-you to Jarret Summers, Effingham Plant Manager for South Central FS for presenting and providing equipment, Sloan’s Equipment for supplying the combine, and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office for sharing important tips and hazards associated with rural road driving.
