Good SAFE fun this summer is the goal.
As the school year comes to an end and summer approaches, swimming pools across Oklahoma City will soon be opening for the season. We want everyone to enjoy a safe and fun summer around the water, but it’s important to remember that drownings happen every year.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause of death for children ages 5-14. A few simple safety steps can help save lives:
💧 Always actively supervise children while they are swimming.
💧 Consider swim lessons for children at an early age.
💧 Young children and inexperienced swimmers should wear a U.S. Coast Guard certified life jacket around water.
💧 Backyard pools should have fencing on all sides that is at least four feet high with self closing and self latching gates.
💧 Learn CPR. Immediate action can make a difference in an emergency.
Let’s work together to keep this summer safe for everyone.
