We often talk about charitable giving in financial terms, but its true impact is measured in opportunities created, burdens eased, and lives changed.

Dolly Parton’s legacy reaches far beyond music.

Over the years, she gave millions to causes ranging from disaster relief and medical research to education and children’s literacy. Her Imagination Library alone has distributed more than 330 million books to children across five countries.

After devastating Tennessee wildfires in 2016, her My People Fund provided displaced families with $1,000 a month for six months, no strings attached. She also donated $1 million toward COVID-19 vaccine research and supported schools, scholarships, pediatric care, and communities close to home.

What tied so much of that work together was remarkably simple: trust people, see a need, and respond.

Her example is a meaningful reminder that generosity doesn’t have to follow one formula. It starts with deciding what matters to you and finding a way to make an impact.

Nineteen years ago, today.

One of the things I've come to appreciate most is that life and career are never really separate journeys. They intersect every day, shaping each other in ways we rarely notice while we're living them. The people we become at home influence who we are at work, and the lessons we learn at work often find their way back into our lives.

It feels impossible and obvious all at once.

Somehow, the days moved slowly while the years sprinted by.

In those 19 years, careers were built, children grew up, friendships deepened, losses arrived, dreams changed, priorities shifted, and countless ordinary moments quietly became the story of a life. The big milestones get the photographs, but it's really the thousands of small moments in between that shape us.

Life and work have always walked alongside each other. Sometimes one takes the lead. Sometimes the other. Together, they create a life that looks nothing like what we imagined and somehow exactly like it should.

A thought has been sitting with me today: in 19 more years, I will have lived one year longer than my mom did.

Time is both generous and finite.

So today, more than anything, I'm grateful. For the people beside me. For the years behind me. And for the minutes still ahead.

Cherish the minutes.

They are the meaning of life.

It felt fitting that on the evening of September 10th, our market welcomed Michael Antonelli to speak about investing, the economy, the markets, and ultimately, life.

Michael has a unique way of bringing perspective into focus. While he shares plenty of insight on investing, it's often his reminders about being human that resonate most. One of those reminders is what he calls the secret to life: enjoying the passage of time.

The next morning marked another September 11th.

I was just arriving at the Baird Edina office on September 11, 2001. Back then, we all had TVs in our offices because news wasn't immediately available through our phones. Like so many Americans, I spent that day glued to the screen, watching events unfold that would forever change our nation.

The shock, heartbreak, patriotism, unity, and perspective that followed are things I'll never forget.

Twenty-five years later, the lesson still feels relevant. Markets fluctuate. Economies expand and contract. Life brings both joy and hardship. Through it all, we're reminded that our time is finite and our relationships are what matter most.

That's one of the reasons events like Michael's resonate so deeply with our clients and our team. Yes, we help people navigate investments and financial decisions. But more importantly, we have the privilege of walking alongside individuals and families through the moments that make up a life.

For that perspective, and for the people we're honored to serve, I'm grateful.

A great night under the big top!

We spent Friday evening at Circus Juventas with clients, friends, and the next generation (who kept the energy on point).

Lots of laughs, incredible talent, and a reminder that some of the best relationships are built outside the office.
