Beginning in January, nearly 72 million Social Security beneficiaries will see an increase in their monthly benefits, with retirement benefits rising by approximately $75 per month on average.

October is Long-Term Care Planning Month. Long-term care at home provides ongoing support when someone needs help with everyday activities because of aging, illness, or disability.

Depending on the person’s needs, care at home may include:
• Bathing, dressing, and personal care
• Meal preparation and household assistance
• Medication management
• Transportation
• Mobility and safety assistance
• Skilled nursing or therapy services

It may also require home modifications, such as installing grab bars and handrails, improving lighting, adding an accessible shower, widening doorways, or creating a first-floor bedroom or bathroom.

For eligible older homeowners, a reverse mortgage may provide access to a portion of their home equity. The proceeds can be used at the homeowner’s discretion, including to help pay for in-home assistance, accessibility improvements, or other expenses associated with aging in place.
