Friendly Reminder!

As announced this morning, our friend Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, forecasting six more weeks of winter. As the state continues to dig out from the recent snowstorm, we ask residents to keep the following safety reminders in mind while checking their homes.

Please ensure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home, including inside and outside sleeping areas. Smoke alarms provide early warning and save lives.

If your home uses any fuel-burning heating or cooking appliances—such as gas, oil, wood, or propane—it is critical to also have carbon monoxide (CO) alarms installed. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and deadly gas. Without a CO alarm, you may not know there is a problem if an appliance malfunctions.

It is also important to know the difference between these two life-saving devices:

Smoke alarms sound three loud beeps

Carbon monoxide alarms sound four loud beeps

Take a few minutes today to test your alarms and replace batteries if needed. These simple steps can make all the difference in keeping you and your family safe this winter.
