Tomorrow's the day. The City of Eden and surrounding community businesses have already started events for Black Friday into the weekend. Super excited for folks to find things tomorrow.

Wanted to give folks a sneak peek at what a typical bag will have.

Currently I have 5 bags with $53 face value of interesting and collectible coins and currency. I do have a bit more I will be doing as the "Ike" Eisenhower dollar coins I got after making the initial bags. Hopefully there will be enough to last throughout their business hours.

Spanning many years from 1868 all the way to today.

How it's distributed is up to them, but some folks may be unaware of what the business is doing and try to buy it all from them. Hopefully that wont happen as i wanted them to reach a wide group of folks.

They do have value over their face value, but it's not a great deal except for maybe the silver half dollars and dimes(yes there are a couple and a couple half dollars are 40% silver) that are worth $5-$13 for the half dollars and the dimes about $2.50-$4. Still not of great value they get referred to as junk silver just worth melt. Not worth getting too upset over. I just want the hunt to be fun and maybe some folks discover a new place to eat or a new place to shop.

If you are looking for higher value collectible coins and currency there are a couple booths in Blue Octopus Antiques&Artisans with coins and currency among booths with other collectible and decorative items. Mom and Pops Thrift Shop also has decorative and collectible items

My intent for doing this is to promote shopping local as well as my coin club and to get folks interested in the hobby of coins and currency.

Can't wait to see folks Saturday out and about at these places.

Just a heads up gor folks interested in coming to our coin club meeting in Reidsville on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30.

For the months of December and January, we will not be having the meetings. In December we have a dinner where we meet and eat.

February 9th is the next coin club meeting where you csn come and learn about the hobby and even have a chance to bid on items other members want to let go of. Coins and currency are king so cash is the only payment for the auction.

Going to hit the town and put out a few more business cards Wednesday and Thursday. Going to make a post for folks to show off their finds. I'm hoping some gets spent at other places and folks who don't even know about this find something interesting.

The countdown is on for Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. We got a chance to support local businesses and maybe even find some old collectible money on November 30th.

Barber coins in different denominations of dimes, quarters and half dollars. Minted in the US between 1892-1916. Designed by Charles E. Barber who was the chief engraver for the mint.

This 1904 pictured can be find at one of our participating businesses on Nov. 30th.

The Ike dollar, so named because it has President Eisenhower on the front of it, was minted between 1971-1978(none minted with 1975 on them as the bicentennial was the following year.

I just got them in and you guys will have a chance at finding them in your change on November 30th. I'm going to take another Pic of them with some quarters so you can see the size difference.

Part of the love of collecting coins and currency is the finding of Numismatic items in the wild. Found this little bank at an estate sale in Eden that was made in the 70s. Based on the Indian Head Cent designed in the 1850s by James Barton Longacre.

It's a bank. Fitting to put coins into a stack of coins.

I've been slacking on the page. Always shop local, but to find some old money November 30th is the day to shop local with our partners.

I'm looking in to adding a 6th business in Draper. Details to come.

The National Bank Act of 1863 signed by Abraham Lincoln was designed to establish a national banking system that installed a safe, reliable system. Made to improve the money supply and make things easier to conduct business. The notes were identical except for the bank name, location and charter number. This note was circulated in the Leaksville, Spray, Draper area in the early 1920s to 1928 when the large notes (called horseblanket notes) were retired and the current size notes were introduced to save the trees they use in the process.

If you had family in the area in the 1920s, they may have had this bill in their hands.

This note is one of 8 known. Small towns are harder to find but would mean a greater chance your family held this very bill as well.
