22 years. It’s strange how grief changes with time.
At first, it was about losing you. The emptiness. The questions. The things I wished I had said or done differently.
Then came the regret—the endless “what ifs” and “if onlys.” Wishing I had understood then what I understand now.
But somewhere along the way, grief became part of growth.
Twenty-two years of becoming a different person. Learning about forgiveness, perspective, and how precious the people beside us really are.
We were brothers. That doesn’t end with death.
I still wonder who you would be today. What our relationship would look like. The conversations we would have. The memories we never got the chance to make.
There will always be regret.
But there is also gratitude.
Gratitude that I got to call you my brother. Gratitude for what your life—and your absence—have taught me. And gratitude that after 22 years, you are still a part of who I am.
Time doesn’t erase grief.
It teaches us how to carry it.
