83 years ago today, The of 38 (The Great New England Hurricane) struck land in destroying an estimated 4.7 billion in modern dollars. Over 57,000 , , , , , and essential infrastructures that a bustling needed to function were damaged or destroyed. Among the unexpected consequences, over 600 lives were reported lost, many of which were in Rhode Island.
