Many events/venues/entities ask for Workers’ Compensation coverage as part of their requirements. But what is it? And does your policy with SIA include it? Let’s get into it!

Workers’ Compensation is a type of business insurance that covers things like medical expenses and lost wages if an employee is injured while working.

SIA’s Commercial General Liability policies are valid in all 50 states, the US-owned islands, and Canada. Because we insure clients in all 50 states, and Workers’ Comp laws change from state to state, we do not offer this coverage.

Many venues ask for a COI as part of their requirements. But what is a COI? And how do you pronounce it? Let’s get into it!

COI (pronounced see-oh-eye) stands for Certificate of Insurance. This is a document that shows you have active insurance, your policy expiration date, and your coverage limits. It also contains information like your business name/DBA, the operations you’re insured for, and the first/last name of the person in care of the policy. You can think of this as your proof of insurance!

A COI is typically required by events or venues to verify that performers or vendors have insurance in place before participating. Often, they will also want to be listed as an additional insured! By adding the event/venue as an additional insured, you’re giving them added legal protection, allowing them to submit a claim on your policy (instead of their own). You can submit certificate requests directly from your online client dashboard 24/7.
