Recently, we have seen an increasing number of situations where customers either do not have the coverage they intended to have on newly purchased vehicles or mistakenly believe their new vehicle has already been added to their insurance policy by the dealership.

It is important to understand that, by law, dealerships are not responsible for contacting insurance agencies to add vehicles to a customer’s policy. In fact, doing so could create legal and compliance issues for the dealership.

Ultimately, it is the policyholder’s responsibility to ensure that all vehicles are properly insured and that the correct coverages are in place. To avoid any gaps in coverage, we strongly encourage customers to contact our office directly whenever purchasing or changing vehicles.
