Treasury Opposes Expansion of HARP Refi Program
The Treasury Department will support legislative efforts to increase refinancing opportunities for underwater borrowers that are trapped in legacy private-label loans. But the department does not want to see an expansion of the HARP program, according to a special housing finance advisor to Treasury secretary Jack Lew.

Productivity rises by most in nearly four years

WASHINGTON - U.S. nonfarm productivity rose the most in nearly four years in the third quarter but a drop in unit labor costs underlined a lack of inflation pressure, bolstering arguments for the U.S. Federal Reserve to maintain its massive monetary stimulus.

Some good news is that New-Home Sales rose 25.4 percent in October. On a year-over-year basis, sales were up 22 percent. Nationwide, the government reported that there is enough new home inventory to last 4.9 months. The median sales price of a new home was $245,800 in October and the average sales price was $321,700.

Mortgage rates shot significantly higher after today's FOMC Minutes reminded markets that the Fed is still intently considering a reduction in asset purchases. Most lenders are a full eighth of a point in rate higher than yesterday's latest rate sheet offerings--many of them fared even worse. The most prevalently quoted conforming 30yr fixed rate for ideal scenarios (best-execution) is now easily back up to 4.375%, and some lenders are closer to 4.5%.
