With all of the chaos that comes with daily life, it feels good to have "A Steady Signal in a Noisy World."

This is a fitting theme as credit unions around the world celebrate International Credit Union Day. ICU Day falls on the 3rd Thursday in October to recognize the unique relationship between credit unions and their members and to bring awareness to all aspects of how credit unions help improve daily life.

Credit Unions focus on trust and community by members having equal ownership including members holding the leadership rolls, offering financial education, and an emphasis on personal engagement and bettering the community.

Additionally, being not for profit allows the focus to remain on the members rather than the bottom line. Credit unions are built on the "people helping people" core principle.

Harbor Pointe Credit Union staff recently presented a cash donation of $3,000 to Companies to Classrooms Duluth. This volunteer organization has been operating for 14 years and collects items that can be repurposed for use in classrooms. All items are free to teachers. HPCU members are eligible to apply for $24,000 in scholarships to be awarded by the MN Credit Union Network Foundation Scholarship Council. 8 traditional and 8 non-traditional $1,500 scholarships will be awarded. The deadline to apply is Nov. 30, 2026.
