The best financial decision starts with the right information. Recently, we hosted a lunch and learn that opened with a line from presenter Brian Davis, VP of Recruiting, saying, "Millions of kids are about to make the biggest financial decision of their lives - and most of them haven't done the math."

Most graduating high schoolers are unaware of what college truly costs. So, Brian built a free 5-Step College Cost Calculator that breaks down the real numbers: tuition costs, funding sources, loan repayment, income and expenses, and so much more, for Cottingham & Butler teammates to utilize. This training is just one way our teammates share their knowledge beyond insurance!

Participating 2026 summer interns, along with members of the C&B Better Initiative, volunteered all across the Dubuque community last weekend for our C&B Better in Action event! One group of teammates got the opportunity to play baseball with residents from Hills & Dales.

"Quite some time ago, I was taught by some of my mentors, that giving back is incredibly fulfilling," said Creed W., Vice President. "As we achieve some success in life, we should give back and help others that may not be as fortunate. Hills & Dales provides so much for those with disabilities in our community and being part of providing their residents some joy in their day feels great."

C&B Better in Action was created because our teammates had a desire to support our community. Last weekend, volunteers were happy to help the Hills & Dales Autism Center by cleaning their facilities!

Last weekend, our C&B Better in Action event brought teammates together to give back to the Dubuque community. One group of team members volunteered with Urban Bicycle Food Mission Dubuque!

▪️ "The most meaningful part of the experience was seeing the immediate impact, especially the smiles on people’s faces when receiving what may have been their only warm meal of the day," said Lina A., Service Intern. "It was incredibly rewarding to not only help prepare the meals but also to witness the direct difference it made in the lives of others."

▪️ "Volunteering with a dozen of my C&B colleagues was an incredible experience," said Mike Hessling, President. "Together, we made and distributed meals for nearly 100 Dubuque citizens in need of support. This is truly a special community – and I can’t wait to volunteer with UBFM again soon!"

We're all better when we come together! Last weekend, our people teamed up to make a difference for the community during our C&B Better in Action event. Participating 2026 summer interns, along with members of the C&B Better Initiative, volunteered all across the Dubuque community, and this week, we're highlighting the various organizations that were impacted. First up, a group of teammates volunteered with Inspiration Stables!

"Having the chance to help out at Inspiration Stables was a great opportunity, not only to spend time with the organization, but also with our team," said Chris P., Senior Claims Specialist. "It’s no secret the C&B crew are an amazing group of people. But, I also got to learn a lot about how horses can be therapeutic for children with autism. It's amazing to know it's actually creating a lasting impact."

On Saturday, The Wanderwood Gardens opened their gates for Cottingham & Butler teammates and their children to enjoy! Families got to explore the Wandering Waters, climb high into the trees via The Canopy, make music in the Garden of Melodies, and so many more enchanting activities.

This one-of-a-kind space was brought to life by the generosity of Debi and Andy Butler, and our teammates were thrilled to get a first look at this brand-new experience before it opens later this month.
