Insurance Word of the Week: Deductible. Think of your deductible as your share of a covered claim. Once you've paid that amount, your insurance coverage helps pay the remaining eligible costs based on your policy.

Example: If your deductible is $500 and you have a covered repair that costs $2,000, you would pay the first $500, and your insurance would cover the remaining eligible amount.
