June 6th is recognized as Visually Impaired People Day, and it’s an important reminder of how eye health fits into your Medicare coverage.

Original Medicare focuses on medical needs, so it typically covers eye care only when it relates to diagnosing or treating medical conditions. Routine vision exams aren’t included. Medicare Advantage plans, however, often offer coverage for routine eye exams and additional vision benefits.

National Senior Fraud Awareness Day is coming up on May 15th, and our team at IAA Central Texas wants to help our community stay informed and protected. Fraud targeting seniors continues to rise, especially in areas connected to Medicare, insurance, and financial information.

Here are a few scams we’re seeing most often:

• Tech support scams – Scammers pretend to be tech support and claim there’s a problem with your device so they can access your information.
• Government or Medicare impersonation – Fraudsters pose as Medicare or Social Security to collect personal details or payments. Real agencies won’t reach out this way.
• Family imposter scams – Someone pretends to be a loved one who urgently needs money.
• Sweepstakes, lottery, or prize scams – You’re told you’ve won something but must pay a fee to claim it.
• Romance or investment scams – Scammers build trust online, then pressure people into sending money or investing.

Staying aware of these warning signs can save you or a loved one from financial harm. If you ever have questions about Medicare, insurance, or financial communications you receive, our team is always here to help.
