On location this morning in the beautiful state of Florida. FENCO FARMS LLC will be kicking off their Inaugural Sale today at 12 noon in Floral City, FL. A herculean effort was made to get the brand new facility built. From groundbreaking to hosting the sale, the efforts of all those involved exemplify the can-do spirit of American agriculture. Old friends from across the country and just down the road are turning out to support FENCO.

The sentiment last night and this morning show a bit of anxiety about Trump's messaging. Most producers gave a quick response that centered around the price consumers are paying, but memories of low feeder calf prices just a year ago tempered the full discussion. The cow/calf producer is feeling some relief in the ability to handle major repairs on equipment and infrastructure and even expand in some areas such as upgrades to breeding stock. And they are here today to throw some bids to show enthusiasm for the future.

Producers feel that we don't need Argentine beef to help with consumer prices. Quite a few of these producers are Trump supporters. Also, quite a few aren't sure where the idea of Argentine beef being imported came from. Global trade has definitely supported the higher prices producers feel from the US export prices we receive. But the idea of boxed beef competing against our grainfed homegrown product has producers on edge.

One theory heard over the last few days was interesting and hopeful. The Art of the Deal has one major component we may be seeing right now. Everything is a negotiation. What if the big 4 packers jumped and helped curb some of the price stress on consumers? What if the gubment didn't haveta do nothing at all? What if industry as a whole was rallied by the threat that was never really a reality? Win-Win. Trump gets the credit. No Argentine beef. Prices fall due to industry movement, to a level that leaves the consumer able to buy, yet gives the profit the cow/calf guy needs to keep the lights on at home. What if? Take this opportunity to reach out to your Congressional delegation. Whatever your flavor of politics is, now is the time to get to know those that can have a voice in the discussion. Make the call.

Prayers that God provides you a blessing today, this week, or for a lifetime. The retirement plan provided by riding for The JC Brand is better than just streets of gold. Also, prayers for the loved ones dealing with health issues or terminal illness. There's a lot of heartache out there. Without rain, how would we know how good the sunshine feels, or how the flowers look in full bloom?

In His hands,
Marcus

On location in beautiful Lexington, KY, at the Bluegrass Stockyards. Yesterday The Super Wagyu kicked off with a bit of education provided by the Midwest Wagyu Association.

Of interest was a talk by Dr. Cara Wells of EmGenisys. The technology uses AI to interpret the viability of embryos to aid the increased % of pregnant recips on the other side of transfer. The service is reaching into the future using technology to increase reproductivity and decrease cost from lost unviable transfers that won't hold. Producers were very intrigued to hear how they can increase their reproductivity and productivity in the same application of technology.

Market dynamics are still leaving producers scratching their heads. What causes the futures to dip, but leaves the cash market in the catbird seat? Cycles aren't necessarily a thing of the past, but they are definitely cycling differently. Supply is needed, but demand appears to still be driving the train of the industry. Where's the next stop? 2027? 2028? New World Screwworm in TX? It's anybody's guess.

In the days to come, try to find a friend to call. Maybe one it's been months since you've spoken last. Maybe one in need due to their health issues. Maybe one that is dealing with loss recently. We're all guilty of being busy. Today's business demands more of our time than we really have to give. Find the time. It matters.

Lastly, more importantly, find a church home. A family of faith can carry you through difficult times and provide support when the world seems to be closing in. Remember, the death rate for this life is 100%. What happens after that closure depends all on what you do before that day.

If we can be of assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

May God bless you & your crew.

Several conversations over the last week of travel have focused on the trajectory of the industry in light of that flesh eating screw worm fly working it's way into our nation. As of this posting we haven't had any confirmation of it being on US soil, but let's be realistic about that 70 mile distance. It's only a matter of time until confirmation of US presence is made.

Then we deal with the fallout in the futures market - how many hedge fund operators will wake up that Monday morning with a hangover from a rambunctious weekend and decide they need to dump a few million contracts for fear of an industry in turmoil trying to swat at a fly that blends in with the other trillion flies we deal with in a day's time? Time means money in this scenario. We need a little more of both to keep the predator at bay.

Attitudes about prices and the future of the cattle industry are still good. A producer we spoke with earlier today gave a report of one economist projecting that we may just be at a flat spot on prices. He gave room for higher prices into 2027. Won't that be interesting bar talk later tonight?

Finally, we'd like to pass on that our Father in Heaven owns the cattle on a thousand hills. If you'd like to cowboy for him, give me a call. I can pass along his Son's name and details of the job. There's a sweet retirement plan when you're done down here.

If we can be of help, just let us know.

May God bless you and your family today.

Today's adventure takes us to southern Arkansas on location at the Draggin' M Ranch - Registered Brangus Cattle. DMR has a great location nestled on the south side of El Dorado.

Today we'll meet with brangus breeders from across the south. The Southeast Brangus Breeders association is having a field day with a great lineup of speakers and a few of us that help support their efforts.

Topics of discussion are geared to help producers maximize profitability for the long haul. Genetic selection and an upgrade to commercial cow herds seem to be hot topics in morning coffee rounds.

Calf prices and market projections seem to be pointed in the right direction for the cow/calf operator. However, even with a bit of profit taking, most producers are still struggling with input costs. Bankers and spreadsheets are at odds for some producers with actual margins tight like they've always been.

Reminiscent of the 2014-2016 climb and fall, concerns abound about the buying of the current replacement heifers and cows and the prices those females are fetching. A guess is that 10-15% of the industry bought the elevated females during that run up to 2016. But in today's market will we see 40-50% of the industry buying those high demand females, and then contend with the fall that is surely to come (insert pessimistic cowman view here)? How far overleveraged will those spreadsheets be if the dynamics change and we see a decline in prices? Only time will tell.

Today the cow/calf operator can enjoy a bit of sunshine while these prices for their calves hold out. We thank the Good Lord for these markets, the rain, and a land where we're free.

If we can be of help, let us know.

We're on site at Beef On Forage Beefmasters Fall Performance Sale in Brenham, TX.

Tonight we start off with a select group of replacement heifers that can help influence a herd for the next 10 years or more.

Producer sentiment is a mixed bag of "I gotta buy to replace" and "I can't afford what some of these girls are going for".

We may get an idea of how the economy is affecting the cattle sector in a very small snapshot. Do we invest while we can? Or do we wait for the election results to post - sometime in December?

Best wishes to buyer and seller alike. May God bless your endeavors.
