Happy New Year! It's hard to believe how fast this year past, but it's not hard to believe that 1 in 5 Americans have inactive 401(k)s worth thousands of dollars. Here are the first few steps on locating an old balance.

1. Contact your old employer's HR department
2. Check old 401(k) statements for account details
3. Use look-up databases like the National Registry of Unclaimed Retirement Benefits or the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators
4. Check the Department of Labor's abandoned plan database

Once you've located your plan, you can:
🔁 Request a direct rollover to your new employer's plan
💼 Transfer the funds into an existing IRA
🤔Cash it out (but beware of taxes and penalties)

Want to make more money? Annual income is often used as a measure of success and stability.

But have you ever thought about what it really represents?

It’s a reflection of how easy you are to replace. If your job can be done by anyone with minimal training, then your income will likely be lower.

BECAUSE YOURE REPLACEABLE!

But if you have unique skills and experience that are hard to find elsewhere, then your income will reflect that.

So if you want to increase your earning potential, focus on developing skills that are in high demand and hard to replace.

Take on the crappy assigment at work, do the job that nobody wants to do. It makes you more valuable in the long-run.

Last week I finally got to see my brother after 2 years of his missionary service 🙌🏻

Spent a lot of time on calls talking about sports, family and life and I’m excited to transition that to in person.

It’s moments like these that remind me how important family is and how grateful I am to have him in my life!

Grateful to have a job that allows freedom to take time off for moments like this.

Working alongside my dad has been one of the greatest decisions I have ever made.

Having a mentor who cares so much about your success they sacrifice their own interests is the ultimate show of leadership. And that’s exactly what my dad has done.

One of the best feelings in the world is getting rid of debt.

That's how my wife and I felt as we paid off her car this last month and no longer have any car payments.

Ask the government how they feel about their debt 😂

With a balance of over 31 trillion I don't think they will have that feeling anytime soon.

We always hear about the power of a Roth IRA

I would love to get into the benefits… but I’ll touch up on that later.

The main road-block for most people on having a Roth IRA is… setting one up in the first place.

Roth IRA’s offer a lot of flexibility in term of when and how much you can contribute.

You might want to start with $500 a month.

Or maybe $50 a year.

Whatever you prefer depending on your preference or financial situation.

Most people are pretty surprised on how simple it can be to start.

I like baseball, my wife likes the matching outfits.

This time of year is full of Utah baseball for us and we got to take the little guy to his first game ever!

Baseball teaches us a lot about how you don’t have to be perfect to be successful.

If you hit over .300 you are considered to be excellent batter.

This week I’m focusing on showing up!

(The hotdogs and nachos also help get me to the games 😂)

BIG NEWS in the government.

AOC, a US Representative, introduced a huge bill.

This would ban and put a lot of restrictions on Congress from trading individual stocks, and would even put this ban on spouses and dependents.

My only question is why wasn’t this introduced earlier?

An eclectic group of lawmakers, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Matt Gaetz, proposed a bipartisan bill to prevent members of Congress from trading individual stocks.
