Great news....only in California...The IRS has issued a "letter" allowing Homeowners in California to do a short sale and without having to pay income taxes on the "debt forgiven!" So if are thinking of short selling your property, you can still do so without incurring any tax liability. Of course I am not a tax professional and this is not tax advise, you still need to check with a tax pro, you need to be aware of all the factors that affect you when selling.
