Forever Wild at Beaver Creek Trails

Forever Wild at Beaver Creek Trails Over 15 miles of trail on 396 acres of property. We have three trail heads. Two on Fortner Street and one off of Flowers Chapel Road.

Designed for Mountain Bikers but great for hiking and trail running. The Dothan Forever Wild Trails is part of the ongoing Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust, creating mountain biking and hiking trails throughout the state. The Leisure Services Department was heavily involved in spearheading the efforts to make the vision of the Trails a reality. It began with 40 acres of city-owned land inside the c

ity limits near the old Beaver Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The land would have been an ideal location for green space or a passive park, but when Wells Fargo Bank added 60 nearby acres to the 40 already owned by the city, the vision to do something even bigger began to form. Eventually, about 400 acres were secured and submitted to Alabama ’s Forever Wild program, which identifies land to be protected forever as a natural preserve. Features of the Dothan Forever Wild Trails

Boasting nearly 400 total acres, the Dothan Forever Wild Trails are located between Flowers Chapel Road and Fortner Street. When fully completed, which is anticipated to be by October 1, 2016, the Dothan Forever Wild Trails will feature a 10 mile trail system consisting of six separate trail loops linked together by connectors/bridges, including a small looped 1-mile family trail off of Flowers Chapel Road called Beaver Tail Flats. The Trails site features 3 parking lots, one off of Flowers Chapel Road and two off of Fortner Street. An additional feature of the Forever Wild Trails is the construction of a “pump track." The dirt track has bumps, turns and hills and is built in such a way that it can be navigated without the biker having to pedal if the biker maneuvers (or pumps) his or her bicycle correctly around the track. Many thanks to the Circle City BMX Club for their construction of the pump track for the public's enjoyment.

🌲🚵 Trail Work Day Success! 🚵🌲

Today was another fantastic day of giving back at the Forever Wild Trails in Dothan! Members of the South Alabama Mountain Bikers (SAM) came together for a trail brush clearing, overhang trimming, and cleanup day to help keep our trail system safe, enjoyable, and beautiful for everyone.

Despite a storm rolling through and a little rain, our volunteers never missed a beat. The weather didn’t slow us down, and in just a short amount of time we accomplished a tremendous amount of work across the trail system.

We were especially excited to have around 16 volunteers show up to lend a hand. That’s what community is all about! Every person who came out made a difference, helping maintain the 16 miles of multi-use trails that hikers, runners, mountain bikers, and families enjoy year-round.

As a nonprofit organization, SAM is proud to partner with and be trusted by the City of Dothan to help maintain these incredible trails. Days like today demonstrate what can happen when people come together to invest in their community and public spaces.

A special thank you goes out to Dunkin’ Donuts for sponsoring breakfast and helping fuel our volunteers before the workday began. We also want to thank SunSouth for generously lending equipment that helped with our dirt-moving efforts and allowed us to accomplish even more during the workday.

These partnerships and community relationships are what make projects like this possible. Together, we’re building and maintaining something that benefits the entire Wiregrass community.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, donated resources, and supported today’s effort. The trails are looking better than ever, and we’re already looking forward to the next workday!
