Snapshot of important market indices as of 3/24/2026. Notice the S&P 500 is 4th from the bottom for latest 12-months. 3-months is negative for major US indices. Only one index is hugely positive over 3 months, and it's not all due to the war with Iran. Most investors are only in the lower bars.

Not exactly the four horsemen of the apocalypse, but you never like to see all four of these spiking up simultaneously: Volatility, Short-Term Interest Rates, Oil Prices, and Overall Inflation. This is a good time for managing market risk.

Renter Shock: Over half of Nashville renters spend >30% of their gross monthly income on rent. The bigger shock is that nearly one-quarter of renters spend >50%. Chattanooga & Knoxville are about the same. It could be worse. Southern California has 30% of renters spending over 50%. So does Memphis.

Commodities continue to be the big story for the latest 12 & 3 month time periods. Even after a one day plunge in late January that crushed many of these categories, they STILL closed out the time frames with tremendous performance.

The huge demand story hasn't changed. It will be fascinating to see what happens going forward.

Another "Scariest things investors have ever told me" 2-min video story. When something sounds too good to be true, especially in the world of investments, it probably is. With AI creating even more ways to scam people, it's going to take a higher level of due diligence. As Sergeant Esterhaus used to say on Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there." For you people under 50, Hill Street Blues was a very popular police show in the 80's!

With a big day in the markets today, I wanted to rush this out before the weekend. Despite recent market volatility, stocks still show continued strength. With a switch from YTD to 12-month for blue bars, we can still see the same leaders. However, the real news is the 3-month leadership. Big switch to value stocks, with Large Cap Value and Small Cap Value shining. Both are heaviest in financial services, with Industrials as the 2nd largest allocation. Growth stocks were weak. Seems hard to believe, but it's true.

Weak employment numbers shouldn't surprise anyone. The "real" unemployment numbers (U-6, not the headline U-4 numbers) indicate the labor market's continued deterioration over the last 24 months. Despite real-time inflation falling to 1% (Truflation US CPI Inflation Index) and the economy growing strongly, with the Atlanta Fed's latest 2025 Q4 estimate at +4.2%, the unemployment numbers still remain concerning.

If this forecast ends up being true, NOBODY will be able to refinance their mortgage to a lower rate for years to come. That means, when buying a home, one should weigh very carefully one's monthly payment and assume that it could stay the same for a long time. We had FORTY YEARS OF FALLING MORTGAGE RATES, from 18% to 3%. Mathematically, that will NEVER happen again. Use wisdom in large purchases.

500 broken utility poles? Continued prayers for the people of Nashville. I had no idea it was this bad. We were lucky. We're around 30 mins west of Nashville and only had our power out for 2 days. Some family members are still without power. The Storm of '26 will go down in the history books for locals. This is bad and the weather isn't cooperating, with freezing temperatures all the way into Monday of next week. Plus, forecasts for mid-week are calling for a little bit of snow AND freezing rain, which is the worst.

CPI Collapsing? What a difference six weeks makes. Truflation's real-time inflation tracker shows the index down to 1.18%. This is notable despite tariffs and rising industrial metals prices.

Although I'm typically not a fan of cold weather (and am NEVER a fan of freezing rain & ice), I do have to say that God uses these moments to create some truly beautiful scenes.

This past weekend's storm was a complete train wreck. Power out for 36 hours. Fallen power poles, power lines, trees, tree branches...everywhere. Not even out of the woods yet. Still, the quiet scenes can take your breath away. Still praying for those without power and that everyone gets through safely. Be careful on those icy roads!
