Interesting take away from an article read this Monday morning:

“Also contributing to higher premiums [auto] particularly in California are the popularity of electric vehicles, which are cheap to maintain but more costly to repair than gas-powered cars and trucks.”

Californians may be feeling the sting of higher auto insurance prices more than drivers in other states because the rate increases over the past three years come after years of rate suppression by California regulators.

The Times article quotes this observation from Brian Sullivan, editor of the Auto Insurance Report: “The challenge is not so much average price and affordability. It’s the volatility of price. It’s tough to stomach.”
