Think adding a teen to your insurance has to break the bank? 💸 Think again!
I’m debunking the biggest myths and sharing 4 easy ways to save.
🚫 4 Teen Driving Myths (The Debunk)
Myth 1: Don’t add your teen to save money.
Fact: If a regular driver in your home isn’t disclosed, your insurance company can deny your claim after an accident. Always notify your agent once they are licensed.
Myth 2: Separate policies are cheaper.
Fact: Individual policies for teens are the most expensive option. Keeping them on your policy allows them to share your multi-car, loyalty, and bundling discounts.
Myth 3: You’re not liable if they have their own policy.
Fact: As long as they are your legal dependents (under age 26), you are generally responsible for them. Separate paper doesn’t separate your liability.
Myth 4: You must add them as soon as they get a permit.
Fact: You don’t pay extra for a learner. We don’t rate or add them to the policy until they have a full driver’s license.
💰 4 Tips to Save Money
1. The “Good Student” Reward
If your teen is a full-time student under 25 with a 3.0 GPA or higher, you qualify for a significant discount. Good grades pay off!
2. The “Student Away” Discount
Is your teen heading to college? If their school is 60+ miles from home and they leave the car behind, your premium could drop while they’re away.
3. Choose the Car Wisely
Avoid brand-new cars and EVs, which are expensive to repair. The sweet spot for insurance is a used car (7+ years old) or a hybrid.
4. Safety First (Literally)
Have your teen complete our Inexperienced Driver Course online. These safety modules provide an immediate discount once completed.
