Congratulations to Belvin Liles III on being named to the Michigan Chronicle’s 2026 Class of 40 Under 40!

Belvin serves as Principal at ID Ventures, our venture arm, where he’s been instrumental in supporting entrepreneurs and expanding access to capital across Detroit, including his leadership on our partnership with Venture 313 and the Gilbert Family Foundation. Detroit-born and raised, he’s built a career that’s taken him around the world, but he chose to bring that talent home.

We’re proud to call Belvin part of the Invest Detroit family, and even prouder of the impact he continues to make for founders across the city. Congratulations, this one’s well earned.

This park could have been a lot of things: a cemetery, a development, something that didn't serve the people who live here.

But the community showed up to every meeting and every conversation for years, and made sure their voice was heard. The result? Rogell Park.

98 acres of green space in the heart of northwest Detroit, transformed from a former golf course into a natural habitat where residents can walk, gather, and connect with nature close to home. The park features a 0.83-mile paved path, four scenic overlooks, boardwalks through restored wetlands, and stormwater management features that help prevent flooding in the surrounding neighborhood.

A portion of the trail will eventually connect to the Rouge River Greenway, linking Rogell Park to Eliza Howell and Rouge Parks.

Invest Detroit was proud to serve as the implementation partner for the Strategic Neighborhood Fund alongside the City of Detroit, Huntington Bank, and Flagstar Bank, helping move a community-driven vision from planning to reality. This is what the Fund was built for: putting resources behind neighborhoods and the people who believe in them.

Detroit has been an arts capital and cultural cornerstone for as long as anyone can remember, and OSI Art Apartments is a true example of what happens when intention meets that history. Artists-forward in design and deliberate in purpose, URGE Development did an incredible job threading the needle to bring this development to life in a way that honors Detroit's creative legacy.

OSI Art Apartments has officially opened its doors in Woodbridge, built from the ground up to celebrate art. Structurally designed to reflect the work of internationally acclaimed artist Osi Audu, the building is a work of art in its own right, 30 new homes, 15 of which are affordable at 50–80% AMI, plus 5,000+ sq. ft. of commercial space anchoring the West End Gallery District.

Invest Detroit is proud to have supported this project with a $13.5 million New Markets Tax Credit allocation, helping make this kind of catalytic, community-centered development possible.

Minock Park Place is a celebration that proves development can be equitable, community-focused, serve long-time residents, and bring people together in a meaningful way. Congratulations to Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation for this incredible milestone and the vision it takes to bring this kind of community-focused development to life.

The Strategic Neighborhood Fund exists to support exactly this type of work. Bringing public, private, and nonprofit partners together around a shared vision for Detroit neighborhoods, investing in the corridors, housing, and people that make communities whole. Minock Park Place is that work in action.

For seniors who spent their lives building this city, this means being able to retire in the neighborhood they love, close to their families and the community they've long called home. Keeping long-time residents rooted in the places they've advocated for is how neighborhoods stay strong.

This milestone caps over $30 million of investment in Grandmont-Rosedale, delivering nearly 80 affordable units and 5,400 square feet of commercial space.
Residents begin moving in this July.

For years, northwest Detroit residents sat down with the city to imagine what this land could become. Today, that vision is open to the public.

Rogell Park has transformed from a closed golf course into a 98-acre greenspace with a .83-mile paved path, scenic overlooks, and boardwalks through wetlands and meadows, a place for residents to slow down and connect with nature.

The $4 million transformation was funded through American Rescue Plan Act dollars and the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, with support from Invest Detroit, Huntington Bank, and Flagstar Bank.

Jermaine Ruffin, SVP, Neighborhoods, noted that this kind of project reflects exactly what the Fund was created for: strong partnerships that come together to deliver vibrant public spaces and lasting opportunity for Detroit neighborhoods.

The design reflects what residents asked for through years of community planning, prioritizing walking paths and natural views for everyone to enjoy.

This week, we celebrated a milestone for Detroit's food economy.

Invest Detroit is proud to have supported the Shed 7 ribbon cutting at Eastern Market Partnership with a $4.5M New Market Tax Credit investment. This modernized wholesale distribution center will expand cold storage, create affordable space for local growers, and help feed our communities for generations to come.

To date, Invest Detroit's NMTC investments have brought more than $263 million to Detroit, supported 25 projects, and helped create more than 3,600 jobs.

Congratulations to Eastern Market Partnership, Michigan Community Capital, Gilbert Family Foundation , J.P. Morgan , the Michigan Economic Development Corporation , and all of the partners who made this possible. Detroit's food future is bright.

Eastern Market is one of Detroit's most storied institutions, and modernizing Shed 7 is exactly the kind of large-scale evolution our legacy anchors deserve. With this investment, Eastern Market is building the infrastructure for the next generation of growers, entrepreneurs, and communities to thrive.

Michigan’s innovation economy is gaining momentum, and we’re excited to be part of it.

State Sen. Michael Webber (R-Rochester Hills) has introduced a package of bills that would direct $30 million annually in state income tax revenue into the Michigan Innovation Fund for five years, mobilizing a total of $150 to $200 million a year for Michigan’s startup ecosystem.

Our own Jennifer Hayes, SVP of Public Policy, spoke with Crain’s about what this legislation means for founders, investors, and communities across the state. Since launching last month, the Michigan Innovation Alliance has grown to over 300 member organizations, and our funding goal has grown to $100 million annually to support innovation statewide.
