FROM THE DESK OF YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD INSURANCE GUY....
Most people know that all drivers in a household should be listed on an auto insurance policy. What many don’t realize is that insurance companies are becoming increasingly sensitive to all residents in the home—even those who don’t have a license or never drive.
Why does this matter?
Because resident relatives are often automatically eligible for Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage if they’re injured in an auto-related incident—even if they weren’t in your vehicle at the time.
Recently, there have been cases where claims were denied because household members were not disclosed on the policy. Some carriers now require that everyone age 14 and older be listed or at least accounted for.
The safest first step is to connect with your insurance professional and confirm exactly what your carrier requires.
If you’re like me, you don’t pay insurance premiums as a donation—you pay for protection when the unexpected happens. Making sure your policy is accurate is a simple step that can prevent major issues later.
