We're excited to announce that the Nemecek Agency has changed it's name. We are now the Ashton Whitlock Insurance Group.

Different name. Same commitment to protecting your assets and your business.

This name change allows us to expand outside of Michigan. There are other unrelated insurance agencies with Nemecek in their name operating in Ohio and other states. (Distant relative, maybe?)

State regulators would not allow us to expand into those states without changing our name.

We have had investors reach out to us from Australia, Canada, Czechia, France, Israel, Poland, and South Korea reach out to us about getting either a builder's risk or landlord insurance policy for a property in the Detroit area.

While we love welcoming people to Detroit, it's often best if foreign investors have a U.S.-based entity that will own your insurance policy. If you don't currently have one, we can refer you to a local attorney who can help you set that up.

I stopped selling auto insurance to almost everyone years ago. (Long story short: lots of headaches + very low pay = not good for business.)

In spite of this, people still occasionally reach out to me to ask questions like, why is this rate the way that it is or something along those lines.

And they're never really content when I say something along the lines of "Because you're dealing with a greedy corporation that makes lots of short-term decisions with no clue or concern about where it will lead them and then is constantly trying to dig itself out of the hole they put themselves into while still having little to no interest in anything beyond this week's sales numbers."

I mean, please tell me that nothing in that sentence surprises you.

If you get your pulse and blood pressure checked at your local doctor's office, the HIPPA law protects your privacy. However, if it's done by your Apple Watch then the only privacy you have is whatever Apple decides to give you.

There is a bill pending in the U.S. Senate that would change this and makers of wearable health data subject to the same rules as other medical providers.

I've mentioned before how homeowners insurance is getting more and more expensive as well as harder to get. NPR has an article out about those extra costs are hurting American families and changing communities.

Home insurance is getting less affordable, and less available, as insurers raise prices and pull back from areas with extreme weather. That's forcing families across the country to make tough choices.
