Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), health insurers are prohibited from using gender as a rating factor when determining premiums for individual and small group market plans. This policy, in effect since 2014, was a major reform aimed at eliminating gender-based discrimination in health insurance pricing.
Before the ACA, it was common for women to be charged more than men for the same coverage, simply due to gender-related assumptions around healthcare usage. The ACA ended this practice to ensure that everyone—regardless of gender identity—has equal access to affordable and fair healthcare coverage.

Age (within a 3:1 ratio for adults)
