The IRS is changing how some taxpayers receive penalty relief.

Under the new Automatic Exemption from Penalty program, eligible taxpayers with a strong filing and payment history may avoid certain late-filing, late-payment, and late-deposit penalties automatically, without having to request relief first.

But AEP has limits: it doesn’t erase your tax debt, stop interest, or cover every type of penalty.

Learn who may qualify, what the program covers, and what to do if you still receive a penalty notice:

Making monthly payments does not always mean your IRS balance will fall as quickly as expected. Interest continues to accrue daily, and some penalties may continue until the balance is paid in full.

An installment agreement can still be useful, but it is important to understand its total cost and whether it remains the right fit for your financial situation.

If your balance is growing despite regular payments, Andrin Tax Relief can review your account and explain the available next steps.

IRS penalty relief is changing in 2026.

Beginning in summer 2026, the IRS is introducing an Automatic Exemption from Penalty for eligible taxpayers with a strong compliance history. It can apply to certain failure-to-file, failure-to-pay, and failure-to-deposit penalties.

If automatic relief does not apply, Reasonable Cause relief may still be available. Penalty relief does not erase the underlying tax, and not every return or penalty qualifies.

Received a penalty notice? Andrin Tax Relief can review your account and help you understand which options may apply.

Unpaid payroll taxes do not always remain only a business problem.

Income tax, Social Security, and Medicare amounts withheld from employees are trust fund taxes. If those funds are not paid to the IRS, the Trust Fund Recovery Penalty may be assessed personally against someone the IRS determines was responsible and acted willfully.

Job title alone does not decide liability, but waiting can make the problem harder to resolve. If your business is behind on payroll taxes, speak with Andrin Tax Relief before the issue moves beyond the business.

Unresolved IRS debt can affect a passport, but it does not happen because of every unpaid balance.

For 2026, seriously delinquent tax debt generally means more than $66,000 in legally enforceable unpaid federal tax debt, including assessed penalties and interest, when additional collection conditions are also met.

If you received Notice CP508C or are concerned that tax debt could interfere with upcoming travel, Andrin Tax Relief can review your status and explain the available resolution options.

Let's check in.

Tax season is much easier when your paperwork is already organized.

Use this mid-year window to gather income records, receipts, estimated tax payment confirmations, contractor documents, and any IRS correspondence. Keep everything in one folder, divide it into clear categories, and set a quick quarterly reminder to update it.

A little organization now can help uncover missing forms, payment gaps, or unresolved notices while there is still time to address them.

If you received an IRS notice, the first thing I want you to know is this: do not ignore it, but do not assume the worst either.

A tax notice can mean many different things.

Sometimes the IRS is requesting more information.

Sometimes there is a balance due.

Sometimes the issue is more serious and collection action may be coming next.

The problem is that most notices are written in a way that makes people panic instead of act.

Before you send money, call the IRS, or assume the amount is correct, take a step back and review:

• What tax year the notice applies to
• Whether the balance is actually correct
• What deadline is listed
• Whether penalties or interest have been added
• Whether the notice is asking for action or warning of enforcement

But the earlier you respond, the more control you usually have.

Tax problems get harder when they are ignored.
They often get more manageable when they are reviewed calmly and strategically.

If you received a notice and are not sure what it means, schedule a consultation before you respond.

The IRS’ new online tool may be a helpful starting point for understanding tax debt options—but it is not a substitute for professional guidance.

For simple situations, online tools can help point you in the right direction. But if your tax account is more complex, the next step matters.

That includes sole proprietors, people with multiple businesses, entrepreneurs with payroll or contractor obligations, and anyone dealing with years of unfiled returns, penalties, liens, or IRS collection notices.

Your situation may involve more than one tax issue, and choosing the wrong path can make things harder to fix later.

Andrin Tax Relief is here to help you understand your options, protect your interests, and move forward with guidance you can trust.

We’re here to help. Let’s start with a consultation and explore your options.

“Tax forgiveness” sounds simple, but the reality is a little more nuanced.

There is no IRS program that automatically wipes away tax debt. In most cases, the phrase refers to real IRS relief options, like an Offer in Compromise, Currently Not Collectible status, penalty abatement, or an installment agreement.

The right option depends on your income, expenses, assets, filing history, and how much you owe. That’s why broad promises about settling tax debt for pennies on the dollar should always be treated with caution.

In our latest blog, Andrin Tax Relief breaks down what “tax forgiveness” actually means, which IRS relief programs may be available, and how to find out what you may qualify for.

If you’re dealing with IRS tax debt, you don’t have to guess your way through it. Contact Andrin Tax Relief to review your options and take the next step forward.
