Throwback to our last transformation in the Sherman Hill neighborhood 🏚️✨🏠 This project was named as a finalist for best historic renovation in the Home Design Awards. The winner will be announced tomorrow night .. wish us luck! 🤞🏼
Built in 1888 by Manassah Sheuerman, this stick-style Victorian was the home of Edward H. Jones and his family, who built up a successful piano sales business in downtown DSM.
By the time we purchased the property, the music of its glory days had long since faded. Having been used as a boarding house and cut into 7 apartments, the home had sat derelict and vacant for decades.
We carefully brought the home back to life, starting with a new foundation and structural repairs. The original layout as a 5-bedroom single-family home was re-established, with tasteful modern updates to the kitchen and 3.5 baths. A front porch was rebuilt to original proportions. The attic was finished as bonus space, and a new 2-car carriage house built in the back.
This project highlighted tons of historic features - oak floors and solid doors throughout, new wood double-hung windows, inlaid cast iron grates, brass hardware, restored clawfoot tub, operating transom windows, custom-milled trim, hex tile, and salvage fireplace surround.
A true challenge; but super rewarding to bring this poor home back to its best potential!
