The history books I read in grade school had massive gaps. My favorite / most impactful read of the last 2 years: The 1619 Project. A diverse array of scholars paint in the glossed over colors of living Black in America throughout the years -- across citizenship, healthcare, dispossession, capitalism, politics, race, self-defense, punishment, church and music. Building shared understanding matters far more than fears, insecurities, and defensiveness -- and I don't want to live in a world where we are more focused on being right instead of getting right.
