Five Days Left: The Story of Jamal’s Clock-Ticking Comeback

Let me tell y’all a story that still gives me chills.

Jamal owns a neighborhood print shop just outside Kansas City. You know the kind—family-run, loyal customers, does flyers for every local church and barbershop in town. During the pandemic, business crashed. No events, no parties, no school fundraisers. He barely kept the lights on.

Fast forward to last week—I’m grabbing coffee, and I get a call.

“Calvin... I think I waited too long.”

It’s Jamal. His voice is tight, like he’s holding his breath.

“I saw your post about the ERTC... bro, I didn’t know I could still get it. My accountant said I didn’t qualify 'cause I got a PPP loan back in 2020.”

I pause. “That’s old info. You can still get ERTC—even if you got PPP. As long as you don’t count the same wages twice.”

He goes silent. Then he says:

“…How much time do I have?”

I check the calendar.

“Five days, Jamal. Five.”

Five days. That’s it.

We jump into action. I send him the checklist—payroll docs, 941s, PPP breakdown, revenue reports. We work late, Zoom calls, back and forth, digging through paper stacks and Dropbox folders like we’re in a race. And honestly? We were.

By Day 3, we submit his claim: $96,000.

Day 4, we triple-check the math. Clean.

Day 5, postmarked and filed.

Two weeks later, he calls me—voice shaking again, but this time with joy.

“They said it's being processed. Man… Calvin, that’s three years of rent. That’s my daughter's tuition. That’s my second shot.”

Here’s the real talk, y’all:

Jamal almost missed his blessing.
Not because he didn’t qualify.
Not because he didn’t deserve it.
But because he didn’t know in time.

Now I’m telling you—if you’re reading this and wondering if you qualify, don’t wait. The deadline is April 15, 2025. That’s not a guess. That’s a hard stop.

And if you’ve got five days left? Or five weeks?

Do what Jamal did.

📌 Ask the questions. Get the facts. File your claim.

You worked too hard keeping your business alive to let this money slip through your fingers.

Last Chance to Get What You Deserve
The Hidden Fortune You Could Be Missing
Imagine waking up one morning to discover that the government is offering you tens—maybe even hundreds—of thousands of dollars in cash refunds for simply keeping your business afloat. Money you don’t have to repay. Money you earned by fighting to survive through one of the toughest economic crises in history.
Now, imagine missing out on that money—forever—just because you didn’t take action in time.
That’s exactly what’s happening right now to thousands of business owners across the country. They don’t realize they qualify for the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC), and if they don’t act fast, they’ll never see a dime of what they’re owed.
The good news? You still have time. But the clock is ticking.

“The biggest regret in business isn't trying and failing - it's failing to try at all”

[The Skeptical Business Owner sits at their desk, surrounded by pandemic-era receipts and tax documents. Opportunity glows softly in one corner, while Bureaucracy looms in the shadows.]
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (shuffling through papers) Another tax credit? After PPP? It sounds too good to be true. Everything these days seems to come with a catch.
OPPORTUNITY: (shimmering brightly) But that's exactly what makes this moment so special! The catch is that there isn't one - just treasure hiding in plain sight.
BUREAUCRACY: (materializing in a suit made of tax forms) Ahem Section 2301 of the CARES Act, as amended by Section 206 of the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Relief Act of 2020, clearly states...
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (holding up a hand) Please, no legal jargon. I've had enough of that with the PPP loans. Just tell me - why haven't I heard about this before?
OPPORTUNITY: (floating closer) Because sometimes the best opportunities are overshadowed by their flashier siblings. While everyone was focused on PPP, this little gem was quietly waiting to be discovered.
BUREAUCRACY: (adjusting its tie made of red tape) I must insist on proper procedure. The Employee Retention Tax Credit is not a simple matter of filling out a form and...
OPPORTUNITY: (interrupting with a sparkle) But that's why there are experts to help! Think of it as having a translator for Bureaucracy's complex language.
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (leaning forward) I did have to reduce capacity during COVID. And those supply chain issues were a nightmare...
BUREAUCRACY: (pulling out a massive rulebook) Ah yes, but were these reductions "more than nominal" as defined in subsection...
OPPORTUNITY: (creating a holographic image of thriving business) Consider what you could do with up to $26,000 per employee. That's not just money - it's breathing room, growth potential, security.
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (rubbing temples) My accountant never mentioned this. Why wouldn't they tell me if it was legitimate?
OPPORTUNITY: (gently) Even experts have their limits. Your accountant focuses on annual taxes - this is a specialized area. It's like asking a general practitioner to perform heart surgery.
BUREAUCRACY: (straightening its stack of forms) Indeed, the complexity of the ERTC program requires specific expertise in employment tax law, quarterly calculations, and...
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: But what about the risks? I can't afford an audit.
OPPORTUNITY: (creating a protective circle of light) That's why you need specialists with a triple-CPA review process. Think of it as having three different expert pilots check your flight plan.
BUREAUCRACY: (nodding reluctantly) While I prefer to make things complicated, I must admit that proper documentation and expert preparation can make my job... easier.
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (standing up, more confident) So I don't pay unless I get the credit? And I have until March 31st 2025 to file?
OPPORTUNITY: (expanding brightly) Yes! And imagine what this could mean - not just recovering from the past, but building for the future.
BUREAUCRACY: (producing a calendar) March 31st 2025, is indeed the deadline, assuming no legislative changes or regulatory amendments that might...
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (with growing enthusiasm) You know, during COVID, I thought government assistance wasn't for businesses like mine. But maybe...
OPPORTUNITY: (creating a bridge of golden light) That's the beauty of this program - it's designed for businesses exactly like yours. You survived one of the toughest times in business history. You deserve this.
BUREAUCRACY: (flipping through its rulebook) Qualification criteria do include various factors beyond mere revenue reduction, such as...
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (going to the website questionnaire) I think it's time I at least got an estimate. After all, nothing to lose by checking...
OPPORTUNITY: (glowing warmly) And everything to gain! Sometimes the best opportunities are the ones we almost talked ourselves out of.
BUREAUCRACY: (producing a pen) Just ensure all forms are filled out in triplicate, with proper documentation and...
[The office space begins to fill with possibility, as the filing cabinets burst open with blooming potential, and even Bureaucracy's forms begin to transform into butterflies of opportunity]
OPPORTUNITY: (spreading warmth throughout the room) Remember, the biggest regret in business isn't trying and failing - it's failing to try at all.
SKEPTICAL BUSINESS OWNER: (starting to fill out the online questionnaire) You know what? Sometimes the best decisions are the ones that seem too good to be true, until you understand why they're true.
BUREAUCRACY: (beginning to glow slightly itself) I suppose... even I can appreciate when my complexity leads to positive outcomes.
[The scene fades with the Skeptical Business Owner taking action, Opportunity glowing triumphantly, and even Bureaucracy allowing itself a small smile as its forms transform into possibilities.]

Dear Diary - August 15, 2024

I need to write this down because I still can't believe it happened. That ERC money finally hit our account today - $247,832. I actually had to log into the bank three times to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

Remember back in 2020-2021? God, those were dark days. Burning through savings, maxing out credit cards, watching Dad's 40-year-old business almost go under. All those nights lying awake, wondering how I'd make payroll. Maria in accounting had been with us 22 years. Jose in operations was putting his kid through college. I couldn't let them down.

Everyone said "just lay them off," but these people were family. We scraped by. Changed our whole business model. Worked 80-hour weeks. The PPP loans helped for a while, but that money disappeared so fast.

Funny thing is, I almost deleted that email about the ERC. Thought it was another scam. If Steve hadn't mentioned at Chamber of Commerce that his company got $180K, I would've ignored it completely. Even my accountant didn't bring it up - said later he was "focused on other priorities." Still kind of mad about that.

The questionnaire only took a few minutes. Honestly thought we wouldn't qualify since we'd gotten PPP. When they showed me the estimate, I laughed. No way the government would give us that much. But they walked me through everything - all legitimate, all documented.

Today changes everything. We can finally:
• Give everyone the raises they deserved 2 years ago
• Fix that ancient HVAC system
• Pay off the emergency line of credit
• Start that expansion we put on hold
• Actually take a family vacation (Sarah will cry when I tell her)

Called Maria into my office to tell her about the staff bonuses. She hugged me and started crying. Said her sister's company closed during COVID and still hasn't recovered. Made me realize again how close we came to that same fate.

Weird thing is, I feel almost guilty. Like it's too much money or we don't deserve it. But you know what? We earned this. We stayed open. We kept people employed. We followed all the rules. This is the government actually doing something right for once.

Just got a text from Pete at the auto shop down the street. Told him about our claim and now he's checking his eligibility. Said his wife's been on him to look into it but he thought it was "too good to be true." Sounds familiar!

Note to self: Need to take the whole team out to celebrate when the bonuses hit. Maybe rent out Tony's back room. After what we've all been through together, they deserve it.

Still can't believe I almost missed this opportunity. If I hadn't checked when I did... well, let's not think about that. Time to go home and surprise Sarah with the vacation news. First time I've felt this light in years.

P.S. Need to send a thank you note to Steve for mentioning this at Chamber. Otherwise, that deadline would've passed and we'd never have known what we missed.

Skeptic Finds $450,000 in Unlikely Place—How One Email Saved His Business!

Christopher Macor, a small business owner and lifelong skeptic, was known for his conservative approach to finances. But when the pandemic hit, his once-thriving business struggled to stay afloat. Revenue had dropped, supply chains were slow, and new government rules limited his operations. Every day, he watched the bills pile up, wondering how to keep his business from going under.

One afternoon, while scrolling through his emails, he stumbled upon a message about ERTC Express and the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC). According to the message, his business could be eligible for a substantial refund—up to $21,000 per employee! The numbers were impressive: ERTC Express had helped over 9,000 businesses secure refunds totaling more than $1.3 billion.

"Sounds too good to be true," he thought, tempted to delete the email. But something stopped him. The success stories sounded genuine, and Christopher found himself reading testimonials from other business owners. There was Michael, a retail franchisee who secured $773,000 in just six weeks, and Betsy, a CFO in California, who received over $500,000 for her transportation company. Even Bob, a BBQ restaurant owner, who got $400,000 in tax credits in just a few weeks.

The next day, Christopher filled out the questions in the estimate calculator. Eight minutes later he got a call. A warm voice greeted him. “Hello, Christopher! This is Traci from ERTC EXPRESS. I’ll be your account manager and guide you through the ERTC process.” Traci explained that his estimate showed revenue losses, reduced capacity, limited gatherings, supply disruptions and partial shutdowns qualifying him for a rebate. She reassured him, “ERTC Express specializes in complex cases just like yours. We don’t get paid unless you get paid, and we’ll do all the heavy lifting.”

With renewed hope, Christopher submitted his application. Three CPAs from ERTC Express meticulously checked every detail to ensure accuracy and minimize any audit risk. In a matter of weeks, he received the news: his business qualified for over $450,000 in credits.

Sitting in his office, he reflected on the transformation. What once seemed impossible was now a reality. With the ERTC refund, Christopher felt empowered to rebuild his business, invest in new opportunities, and secure his employees’ jobs. And every time someone asked how he managed to turn things around, he replied, “Sometimes, even a skeptic like me finds help where they least expect it.”
