📊 SEPTEMBER JOBS REPORT — LABOR MARKET SOFTENS🔻 Jobs Added: Just 29,000, well below the 90,000 expected📝 Revisions: The prior two months were revised down by a combined 60,000 jobs:
🏦 FED IMPACT: The weak headline number and downward revisions took some pressure off the Fed. October 28 rate-hike odds dropped from roughly 64% to 26%, with a hold around 75%.
🏠 MORTGAGE TAKEAWAY: Markets are volatile this morning even though this is a bond-friendly jobs report. Slower job creation reduces some inflation/Fed pressure and can be supportive for Mortgage Bonds and mortgage rates, although the stronger Household Survey keeps the report from being uniformly weak.
🏥 Where the jobs were: Health Care +17K, Construction +11K, Manufacturing +9K, while Financial Activities lost 7K and Government lost 17K.
👷 Household Survey: Employment actually increased by 406,000, but the labor force grew even faster at +485,000.
📈 Unemployment: Rose slightly from 4.1% → 4.2%, while labor-force participation improved from 61.6% → 61.8%.
⏱️ Job Mix: Full-time employment increased 88K, while part-time employment increased 205K.
