June 3 Webinar: Future Scenarios for Food, Energy, Water, and Ecosystem Security

Today at 12:00 pm CT, Iowa Learning Farms will host a webinar featuring Eric Booth, research scientist, and Kelsie Ferin, research scientist, Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Booth and Ferin are key contributors to the FEWscapes project. FEWscapes is led by scientists and educators at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to advance knowledge and support decision-making for food, energy, water, and ecosystem security in the Upper Mississippi River Basin. The project combines ecosystem modeling, policy and social research, and community engagement to discover new insights and inform regional policy and management.

In the webinar, “FEWscapes Scenarios: Aspirational Pathways for Food, Energy, Water, and Ecosystem Security in the Upper Mississippi River Basin to the Year 2050,” Booth and Ferin will introduce the FEWscapes project and showcase its four foundational scenarios for landscape change in the Upper Mississippi River Basin to the year 2050. They will discuss the pathways that were developed with input from agriculture and natural resources practitioners to highlight promising opportunities and potential threats to achieving future targets for food, energy, water, and ecosystems in the Basin. Booth and Ferin will also share insights on the potential implications of these scenarios on policy and programming in the region.

“The FEWscapes scenarios explore future outcomes of different land-use solutions for addressing nutrient and soil loss, a problem that impacts food and bioenergy production, water quality, and ecosystem health,” said Booth. “If people take one thing away from this webinar and the scenarios presented, we hope they discover an idea they can rally behind to help realize the future they want.”

Participants are encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. People from all backgrounds and areas of interest are encouraged to join.

Final Days to Save 50% on Iowa Farm Bureau’s 2026 Economic Summit

Trade decisions made today will shape agriculture for decades. Are you prepared—and are you registered?

U.S. ag trade is at a pivotal moment—and the decisions happening right now will impact agriculture for years to come. Global markets are shifting, tariffs are evolving, and geopolitical pressures continue to reshape demand for U.S. commodities. For Iowa farmers and agribusiness leaders, the stakes have never been higher.

The question is: will you be in the room for the conversations that matter most?

Iowa Farm Bureau’s 2026 Economic Summit – Trade Crossroads: Forces Shaping the Future of Ag is happening July 17, 2026, at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny. This is your opportunity to hear directly from leading experts in the area of agricultural trade.

But here’s the catch. Early bird pricing ends May 31—and the 50% savings won’t be extended.

Hosted by Tyne Morgan of U.S. Farm Report, this one-day event brings together globally recognized economic experts, policy leaders, and Iowa agribusiness professionals to cover everything from global policy shifts to on-farm impact.

Hear from:
• Former U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Bob Lighthizer on fair trade and U.S. trade policy priorities
• Gregg Doud, National Milk Producers Federation, on where U.S. trade efforts should focus next
• Leading economists and trade specialists in meat, dairy, and grain exports
• ISU CARD researchers on trade, profitability, and financial conditions
• Iowa exporters sharing real-world insights

You’ll leave with:
• A clearer understanding of how global trade forces affect your operation
• Actionable insights you can apply immediately
• A sharper view of future demand for U.S. ag products

When trade is uncertain, knowledge is power—and waiting could cost you twice as much.

Lock in Early Bird Savings Before May 31
• Farm Bureau Members: $25 (regularly $50)
• Non-Members: $200 (regularly $400)

Your registration also includes a complimentary July 16 welcome reception, sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services.

May 27 Webinar: Understanding PFAS Pathways in Agriculture

Today at 12:00 pm CT, Iowa Learning Farms will host a webinar featuring Dana Kolpin, research hydrologist, U.S. Geological Survey, Central Midwest Water Science Center. Kolpin’s research focuses on the environmental fate and effects of pesticides, PFAS, and other contaminants of global concern that result from the growing, raising, processing and manufacturing of plant and animal products.

In the webinar, “PFAS and Agriculture: Research by the Food Resources Lifecycle Integrated Science Team,” Kolpin will discuss the mounting evidence documenting the prevalence of PFAS (i.e., “forever chemicals”) in the environment and their corresponding ecologic and human health effects. He will discuss research regarding three potential agricultural pathways for PFAS; (1) food/feedstock processing wastewater, (2) application of biosolids to farmland, and (3) pesticides. Kolpin will also share his insights into the different aspects of PFAS in urban and agricultural settings.

“While early efforts focused on the urban aspects of PFAS, ongoing research has documented that PFAS contamination in agriculture is a significant concern with the potential to affect food safety and environmental health,” said Kolpin. “The agricultural sector faces a complex challenge with PFAS, and it's important for farmers and stakeholders to remain current on this topic in order to make the necessary informed decisions regarding these forever chemicals.”

Participants are encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. People from all backgrounds and areas of interest are encouraged to join.
