Mortgage rates ended the week higher.

All eyes were on CPI and PPI this week and both beat expectations. Headline CPI +0.1% MoM, +3.4% YoY. Core CPI +0.2% MoM, +2.5% YoY. Headline PPI +0% MoM, +4.7% YoY. Core PPI +0.2% MoM, +4.2% YoY.

Energy prices falling a seasonally adjusted -1.5% MoM was the biggest surprise. The least surprising and largest falling item in the CPI report was lettuce, falling -16.4% MoM (thank you Cyclospora).

Rate hike odds fell sharply after both inflation reports this week, but October is still looking at a 50% chance of a hike after yields rebounded higher on Friday.

Existing Home Sales fell -1.7% MoM to an annualized pace of 4.06mm.

Retail sales fell -0.6% MoM. The World Cup giveth, the World Cup taketh away.
