That Caribbean cruise you booked? Medicare won't cover a single thing the moment you leave port. ✈️

Original Medicare does NOT cover healthcare outside the United States in almost all cases. The exceptions are extremely narrow:

• Emergencies near the US border (like a hospital in Mexico or Canada that's close enough)
• Care on a cruise ship within 6 hours of a US port

That's it. If you're traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, Asia, or anywhere abroad, you are on your own.

Here's what I tell my clients:

✅ Buy travel medical insurance before your trip. It's affordable and covers emergencies abroad.

✅ Some Medicare Supplement plans (Plan G, Plan N) include foreign travel emergency coverage up to plan limits after a $250 deductible. Check your policy.

❌ Medicare Advantage plans generally do NOT cover care outside the US (a few have emergency travel benefits, but don't assume yours does).

However in South Florida some plans do cover Urgent and Emergency Care as a reimbursement. You would have to pay the bill and bring back the invoice in English and submit a claims form.

I've had clients call me from a hospital in the Bahamas terrified about the bill. Don't let that be you. A $40 travel insurance policy could save you thousands.

A $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan with 2.5 stars can cost you MORE than a $50 plan with 4.5 stars. 💡

CMS rates every Medicare Advantage and Part D plan from 1 to 5 stars every year. These ratings measure the things that actually matter:

• Quality of care and health outcomes
• Customer service responsiveness
• Complaint rates and member experience
• How well the plan manages chronic conditions

Here's what most people don't know: 5-star rated plans can be switched to YEAR-ROUND. You don't have to wait for AEP. That's a huge advantage if you're stuck in a plan that's not working.

When you're choosing a plan, don't just look at the monthly premium. A cheap plan with poor ratings can cost you in delayed approvals, denied claims, and lousy customer service when you need help most.

Medicare Savings Programs are REAL programs that pay your Part B premium for you if your income qualifies. In Florida, thousands of eligible seniors never apply because they don't know these exist.

Three programs, three levels of help:

✅ QMB (Qualified Medicare Beneficiary) — pays Part B premium AND Part A premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. The most comprehensive.

Up to $2,500 a year in prescription savings is sitting on the table and millions of seniors never claim it. 📣

It's called Extra Help and it's a Medicare program that helps pay your Part D premiums, deductibles, and copays. In 2026, you may qualify if:

• Your income is up to ~$1,995/month (individual) or ~$2,705/month (couple)
• Your resources are under $16,590 (individual) or $33,100 (couple)

Extra Help can save you up to $2,500 EVERY YEAR on prescription drug costs.

Here in South Florida, I've met so many seniors who qualify and have NO IDEA this program exists. They're choosing between groceries and medications when help is right there.

You can apply through Social Security online or by phone. It takes about 15 minutes. And if you qualify for Extra Help, you may also qualify for a Medicare Savings Program that pays your Part B premium too.

Don't leave money on the table. Let's check if you qualify. 📞
