A lower premium can feel like a win, but it is always worth asking one important question:

What changed?

At renewal, your deductible, coverage limits, or extra protections may look different than they did before. Saving money matters, but so does making sure your policy can truly support you when life happens.

Before you renew, take a moment to review the details. 1st Choice Group is here to help you understand your coverage and make choices that protect your peace, not just your wallet.

Everybody is posting “Rest in Peace.” But did they leave their family any peace?

The flowers will eventually wilt. The calls will slow down. The food will stop arriving. But the mortgage, rent, utilities, childcare, and everyday expenses will still be there.

Life insurance cannot replace the person you love, but it can keep grief from becoming a financial crisis.

This is not about living in fear. It is about loving your family enough to prepare for the life they may have to live without you. Before your loved ones are forced to raise money in your memory, make a plan in your name.

Let’s have the conversation now, while you still have the opportunity to make the decision yourself.

Insurance Reality Check: Your Side Hustle May Not Be Covered

Your business may live inside your home, but that does not mean it is protected by your homeowners or renters insurance.

That inventory in your spare room.
The laptop you use for clients.
The customers stopping by to pick up orders.
The packages waiting to be shipped.

If something is stolen, damaged, or someone gets hurt during a business-related visit, your personal policy may offer limited coverage—or none at all.

Your side hustle is still a business, even if it started at your kitchen table.

Before assuming you are covered, ask your insurance agent:

“Does my policy protect the business I operate from home?”

Because building something from the ground up is hard enough. Losing it because of a coverage gap should never be part of the story.

That thunderstorm came through with POWER last night! ⛈️ Now that the weather has settled, take a few minutes to safely check your property.

Look over your roof from the ground, check your ceilings and walls for signs of water, inspect your windows and siding, examine trees and outdoor structures, and don’t forget your vehicle.

If you notice damage, take clear pictures and videos before cleaning up or making temporary repairs. Save all receipts and contact your insurance professional before agreeing to major repair work. Most importantly, never approach fallen power lines or place yourself in danger trying to inspect an area.

Even if everything looks okay today, some signs of storm damage may appear later. Stay observant, stay safe, and make sure you understand what your current homeowners, renters, or auto policy covers.

🚨 INSURANCE REALITY CHECK #3

“My landlord has insurance, so my stuff is covered.”

Not exactly. 👀

Your landlord’s insurance is generally there to protect the building itself. That does not automatically mean your furniture, clothes, electronics, jewelry, or other personal belongings are protected too.

Now think about this for a second…

If there was a fire, theft, or another covered loss tonight, how much would it cost to replace everything you own?

That number can add up a lot faster than people realize.

Renters insurance can help protect your belongings and may also include other important protections depending on the policy.

The goal is not just to have insurance. The goal is to understand whose property is actually covered.

🚨 INSURANCE REALITY CHECK #2

“I have full coverage, so I’m good.”

Okay… but what does full coverage actually mean? 👀

Here’s the reality: “full coverage” isn’t one specific insurance policy that automatically covers everything.

Your auto policy is made up of different coverages, limits, deductibles, and options. Two people can both say they have “full coverage” and have very different protection when something happens.

The real question isn’t just:

“Do I have full coverage?”

It’s:

“Do I understand what my policy actually covers?”

Because the worst time to learn about your deductible, coverage limits, or something you thought was included is after an accident.

📋 Pull out that policy. Ask the questions. Get the explanation.

We’re here to help you understand what you’re paying for and make sure your coverage still makes sense for your life.

🚨 INSURANCE REALITY CHECK

Your home is worth $300,000.

So you need exactly $300,000 in dwelling coverage… right?

Not necessarily.

Your home’s market value and the cost to rebuild it are two completely different things.

Market value can include things like location, land, neighborhood demand, and the current housing market. Your insurance coverage, however, needs to consider what it could actually cost to rebuild your home after a covered loss—including materials, labor, construction costs, and more.

And with costs constantly changing, the coverage you chose years ago may deserve another look.

🏡 You worked hard for your home. Make sure your coverage still makes sense for the home you have today.

Insurance Reality Check: Don’t wait until there’s a loss to finally understand your policy.

📲 Let’s review your coverage.

**MYTH:** "If a natural disaster damages my home, my homeowner's insurance covers everything."

**FACT:** Not every natural disaster is covered by a standard homeowner's insurance policy.

As we've watched communities across the country face hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, flooding, and severe storms, one thing has become clear: understanding your insurance coverage has never been more important.

Many standard homeowner's insurance policies provide coverage for damage caused by events like fire, lightning, wind, and hail when covered under the terms of the policy. However, **flood damage is typically not covered under a standard homeowner's policy** and often requires separate flood insurance. Depending on where you live, other natural hazards may also require additional coverage.

The best time to review your policy isn't after a disaster. It's today.

Take a few minutes to ask yourself:
🏡 Do I know what my policy covers?
🏡 Do I understand my deductible?
🏡 Would my coverage be enough to rebuild my home if the unexpected happened?

Being prepared starts with being informed. If you have questions about your coverage, don't wait until you need to file a claim. Review your policy with your insurance professional and make sure your protection matches your needs.

🌧️ The Flood Doesn't Care About Your Flood Zone.

The recent flooding we've seen is a powerful reminder that water doesn't stop to check a map before it enters a home.

Many homeowners are surprised to learn that standard homeowners insurance typically does not cover flood damage. Even more surprising? A large percentage of flood claims come from properties located outside of designated high-risk flood zones.

A few inches of water can cause thousands of dollars in damage to floors, walls, furniture, appliances, and personal belongings. The question isn't always "Am I in a flood zone?" The better question is "Could I afford to recover without flood insurance?"

Protecting your home means preparing for the unexpected. Flood insurance can provide peace of mind when Mother Nature has other plans.

Let's review your coverage and make sure you're protected before the next storm arrives.

📚 INSURANCE TERMS MADE SIMPLE

Pop Quiz! 👀

When you hear the word **deductible**, what comes to mind?

A lot of people have insurance but aren't exactly sure what a deductible actually is—and that's okay.

Here's the simple version:

A deductible is the amount YOU pay before your insurance starts helping with a covered claim.

For example, if you have $5,000 in covered damage and a $1,000 deductible:

💰 You pay: $1,000
🛡️ Insurance pays: $4,000

Understanding your deductible is important because it can directly affect both your monthly premium and your out-of-pocket costs when something unexpected happens.

Insurance doesn't have to be confusing. One term at a time, we're breaking it down into plain English.

What insurance term would you like us to explain next?
