"For decades, my calendar revolved around one immovable reality: AEP. The Annual Enrollment Period wasn’t just a season, it was a way of life. From October through December, everything else paused.

Family plans, personal health, hobbies-—even sleep—all took a back seat to clients, compliance deadlines, plan changes, and long days that seemed to deplete me and my staff.

Now, for the first time, AEP comes and goes with no impact on my schedule! Retirement has given me distance, clarity, and a deeper appreciation for what those years meant."

"In May 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a major new effort to improve access to high-cost weight-loss medications for older Americans.

Through a time-limited initiative known as the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, eligible Medicare beneficiaries will soon be able to obtain certain GLP-1 drugs for just $50 per month, a significant reduction from current market prices that often exceed $1,000 monthly."

This week's blog looks at the price of prescription drugs and how you can help your clients when Part D may not cover them.

"Even with Medicare Part D coverage, prescription drugs can still come with shockingly high price tags.

While many common generics cost just a few dollars, some specialty medications can exceed $30,000 to $80,000 per month. For example:

▪️ Mavenclad (MS treatment): ~$60,000 per treatment cycle
▪️ Vitrakvi (targeted cancer therapy): ~$32,000 per month
▪️ Duloxetine (generic Cymbalta)
▪️ Timolol
▪️Restasis
▪️ Xiidra
▪️ Diclofenac

Fortunately, most clients aren’t dealing with drugs at that level, but many are still paying more than they should.

Common medications like the following can still cost hundreds of dollars depending on the plan, pharmacy, or timing in the coverage phases.
