When we think of estate planning, we often focus on wills, trusts, and beneficiary designations.

But there’s another piece of your legacy most people overlook, your digital life.

Starting in iOS 15.2, Apple introduced a Legacy Contact feature. This allows you to securely grant someone you trust access to the data in your Apple account after your death.

That means your loved ones could access:
*Photos
*Messages
*Notes
*Files
*Device backups

Certain items like passwords, payment info, and purchased media aren’t included, but much of your personal history and memories will be.

Why it matters: Without this step, accessing a deceased person’s iCloud account can be a legal and emotional nightmare for families.

Scams are on the rise and they are getting more sophisticated.

From impersonation scams to AI-generated messages and fake investment opportunities, fraudsters are finding new ways to make scams look legitimate.

A few warning signs to watch for:
• Urgent requests that pressure you to act quickly
• Requests for passwords, Social Security numbers, or account information
• Unusual payment or money-transfer requests
• Someone claiming to be a trusted person, bank, government official, or organization.
• Investment opportunities that promise high returns with little risk

The best protection? Slow down and verify. If something feels off, contact the person or organization directly using information you already trust.

We’ve rolled out the red carpet again and are excited to welcome Jansen Davidson, CFP® to the Birchcreek team as our newest Wealth Advisor!

A proud Ohio State Buckeye, Jansen earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from The Ohio State University, where he was also a member of the men’s basketball team. 🏀

Jansen lives in Springboro with his wife, Brooke, their daughter, and another on the way. He enjoys cheering on the Buckeyes, playing golf, and spending time with his family.

The Birchcreek crew (Dan, Ashlee, Jake, Kendra, and Alex) got together today to discuss How to Get Rich in American History: 300 Years of Financial Advice That Worked and Didn’t by Joseph S. Moore, PhD.
It’s been a fascinating read so far. The book is not only well-written and informative, but surprisingly funny too. Some of the history has been especially interesting, and a few of the things we’ve learned happened much more recently than we would have guessed.

For example, did you know the term “financial advisor” didn’t even become widely used until the 1970s?

We’re only halfway through the book, so we’re looking forward to finishing the second half and seeing what other surprises are in store!
