Today was one for the books 📚

I had the honor of being a judge at the Leap for Literacy event in Dawsonville with Dawson County Wee Books and yes, judging people jumping into Lake Lanier in full costume is as entertaining as it sounds

This amazing program provides free books each month to kids from birth through kindergarten through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Just $36 a year helps a child receive books, and they are mailing over 900 every month.

The costumes, the energy, and the leaps definitely delivered.

Ashlyn and I ended the day by letting our dogs, Booker & Blanton, take their own leap into the lake and they may have stolen the show

I’ll take this over any award, honestly.

I knew in the moment those conversations mattered. Sitting with students here in Dawsonville through Youth Leadership Dawson, working through elevator pitches and talking about what real professional growth looks like, you can feel when it’s clicking.

Then this showed up on my desk.

We hosted Coffee & Commerce with the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce at our office this morning, and I cannot think of a better way to start the day.

By 8 a.m. the coffee was flowing, the conversations were loud in the best way, and you could feel business owners genuinely rooting for each other. That is what makes events like this worthwhile. It is not about name tags or handshakes. It is about relationships. When local businesses connect, collaborate, and choose to support one another, our whole community benefits.

Also, a quick shoutout to my wife, Ashlyn, for her baked goods. The unanimous vote is in… she should cater all future events.

Grateful to be part of a community that shows up for each other.

Some things are valuable.

Some things carry a story.

My father-in-law has something pretty special. His 1985 World Series ring from the Kansas City Royals championship season.

He was not a player on the field, but he was part of the organization that helped make that incredible season happen. When the Royals won the 1985 World Series, the staff received rings too. It was a reminder that championships are built by a lot of people behind the scenes.

The ring itself is impressive. It is heavy, detailed, and obviously valuable.

But when he talks about it, he does not talk about the gold or the diamonds. He talks about the season. The people. The energy in the stadium. The moment the final out was recorded.

One time he told me, “When I look at this ring, I do not think about what it is worth. I think about the people, the long season, and the moment we realized we were world champions. You really cannot put a price tag on something like that.”

And he is right.

Celebrating Read Across America with the today at Riverside Elementary. I had the chance to read, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” to Ms. Lamb’s second grade class, which made the morning a little special for me. It is the same book my Nani used to read to me when I was a boy, so turning the pages and reading it out loud again brought back some good memories.

I also learned two things from my audience today. First, those kids know the story better than I do. Second, my character voices and dramatic reading skills could use some work according to a few very honest critics in the front row.

Moments like this are a good reminder that spending time with our kids matters. Encouraging them to read, ask questions, and speak up builds confidence and character long before they even realize it. Grateful for the teachers who pour into them every day and for the chance to play a small part in it this morning.
