Outdoor outlets face rain, humidity, and moisture, which makes GFCI protection especially important. A GFCI outlet is designed to quickly cut power when it detects an electrical imbalance, helping reduce the risk of serious shock.

⚡ Quick Tip: Once a month, press the TEST button. The outlet should immediately shut off. Then press RESET to restore power.

If it doesn’t trip or reset properly, stop using the outlet and have it inspected by a qualified electrician. It’s a simple monthly check that can help keep a small electrical problem from becoming a serious safety hazard.

Keeping your outdoor AC unit clear of weeds, leaves, and overgrown plants does more than improve curb appeal. It helps your system get the airflow it needs to run efficiently, especially during the hottest days of summer.

A quick cleanup also makes it easier to spot damage caused by storms, falling branches, or flying debris before it turns into a bigger problem.

A little maintenance today can help keep your home cooler, your energy bills lower, and small issues from becoming costly repairs tomorrow.

🌳 Shade Can Save You Money

A little shade can go a long way during the hottest days of summer. Trees, awnings, and exterior shade screens help block direct sunlight from heating your walls and windows, keeping your home naturally cooler.

With less heat entering your home, your air conditioner doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. That can mean lower energy bills and less wear and tear on your HVAC system over time.

Small changes outside your home can make a big difference inside. 🏡☀️

🥵 The Heat Is On!

Forecasts are calling for some of the hottest days of the year, with heat index values climbing well above 110°F in some areas.

When temperatures soar, your air conditioner is already working overtime. Help it out with a few simple steps:

🏠 Keep blinds and curtains closed on sun-facing windows.

🌡️ Raise your thermostat a degree or two when you’re away instead of turning it off.

🧼 Check or replace your HVAC filter if it’s dirty. Restricted airflow makes your system work harder.

🍳 Avoid using the oven during the hottest part of the day. Grilling or using smaller appliances can help keep indoor temperatures down.

💨 Run ceiling fans to help circulate cool air, but remember to turn them off when you leave the room.

A few small adjustments can help keep your home more comfortable while reducing unnecessary strain on your HVAC system during extreme heat.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and don’t forget to check on pets, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat. 🌞

AI vs. IA

The following is an Op-Ed from Integrity Adjusters' Director of Claim Operations.

Every few months someone asks, "How much longer before Artificial Intelligence replaces the Insurance Adjuster?" It's a fair question. I wouldn't argue that AI won't reduce the number of field adjusters. It almost certainly will. Every major technological leap has eliminated some jobs while creating or reshaping others. Routine inspections, simple losses, photo-based estimates, and policy lookups are exactly the kinds of work AI is becoming exceptionally good at. The opportunities for the independent adjuster are likely to shrink. Suddenly the question is no longer, "Will AI replace Insurance Adjusters?", but it evolves into, "What happens when AI becomes better than the IA?"

History has a funny way of answering questions like this. Calculators didn't replace mathematicians. GPS didn't replace good drivers. Nail guns didn't replace carpenters. They simply removed the parts of the job that slowed people down. AI is already incredibly good at gathering facts, organizing information, and finding patterns. But claims aren't just data. They're people standing in flooded living rooms, families trying to rebuild after a fire, and business owners wondering if they'll survive another month. Compassion isn't programmable. Experience isn't downloadable. Empathy isn't created in terabytes.

When causation isn't clear, when experts disagree, when attorneys get involved, or when a multimillion-dollar loss hangs in the balance, then someone has to own the decision. AI can recommend. AI can calculate. But can it accept responsibility? If an algorithm gets it wrong, who stands behind the answer?

Until AI can shoulder accountability instead of simply producing opinions, the Insurance Adjuster won't disappear. The herd may get smaller, and the weak may get culled, but the adjusters who bring experience, judgment, and credibility to the table won't become extinct. They'll become more valuable than ever.

The last couple of storm seasons haven't exactly been a buffet for field adjusters. They've been more like fishing trips where you came home with a sunburn and one lonely bluegill.

We've watched one "fish" storm after another curve harmlessly out to sea, taking the anticipated workload with it. Tropical Storm Bertha is on its final day before it starts to fizzle out, and early reports say this storm hasn't been much more than just a rainmaker. I even heard someone describe it as "more of an annoying drip than a claim-worthy storm."

Maybe so.

But don't underestimate a drip.

Ask any homeowner who's discovered a slow leak behind a wall. A little water, given enough time, can create a whole lot of damage. The same is true in our industry. A storm doesn't have to make headlines to generate legitimate claims and meaningful work.
More importantly, don't spend so much time mourning the hurricane that never came that you overlook the claims sitting right in front of you.

Gratitude is a better traveling companion than disappointment.
If you're fortunate enough to have work, be thankful for it. Do the job well. Treat every policyholder with compassion and professionalism. The adjusters who stay grateful, even during the lean seasons, are usually the ones still standing when the next busy season finally rolls around.

If you're an insurance claims adjuster, here's something worth thinking about.

Being fluent in both Xactimate and Cotality isn't just a nice skill anymore. It's becoming a career necessity.

AI is changing the claims industry at a pace we've never seen before. It seems like every new month there are fewer tasks that require human hands, which means the adjusters who remain valuable will be the ones who are the most versatile.

I've heard people on our own roster say they'll never learn Cotality, or they're done with it because of the price increase. That sounds a lot like the adjusters years ago who insisted estimating software would never replace a yellow legal pad, a tape measure, and handwritten calculations.

We all know how that turned out.

Don't tie your career to a single estimating platform. Learn both estimating languages. The adjusters who stay adaptable won't just survive the changes ahead. They'll be the ones getting the call, whether for daily claims or deployment.
