Today marks the 98th Anniversary for the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Farmers was founded March 28, 1928, in Los Angeles, CA . The first household insured was the Briscoe family in Orange County, CA. The vehicle was a 1928 Cadillac Phaeton.

To this day, Farmers remains one of the largest and most respected insurance carriers in America. Congratulations to all who are currently affiliated with Farmers and special congratulations to those who helped build the foundation of this great company!

Earthquake Insurance / Set the record straight on these five common misconceptions:
1. “My homeowners policy covers earthquake damage.”
Homeowners policies typically exclude coverage for earthquakes–only earthquake insurance covers them.
2. “The federal government will bail me out.”
Federal assistance is limited to emergency needs, not repairing or rebuilding homes.
3. “I’m not at risk for earthquake damage.”
Seismic experts would disagree: the risk is high in earthquake prone regions and no community is immune.
4. “My home made it through other earthquakes just fine.”
Not all quakes are the same—the next one could be stronger and much closer to
your home.
5. “I can’t afford the deductible after a major loss.”
Here's the key: the deductible is subtracted from your claim payout, not a check you pay out of pocket.

Bay Area Faces 72% Chance Of Major Earthquake, USGS Warns

A USGS seismologist says Californians should worry less about "The Big One" and more about the moderate quakes that strike more often. There’s a 72 percent chance of a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake striking the region in that timeframe, said Sarah Minson, a research geophysicist with the USGS Earthquake Science Center, located at NASA Ames in Mountain View. There's also a 51 percent chance for magnitude seven or larger, a 20 percent chance for seven and a half or larger, and a 4 percent chance for a magnitude eight.

Insurance inflation on property policies.

Labor and material costs for rebuilding homes generally increase over time, similar to the costs for other goods and services. To help keep pace with the average rate of inflation, we periodically adjust the limits on policies with replacement cost coverage.

The countrywide average inflation factor is 4.4%, up from 3.9% during that same period last year.

I recommend all policy holders review the dwelling coverage every year. Most homes are between $650 to $1,000 per foot in the Bay Area.

CA: Wildfire Risk Report 2024 report noted that more than 2.6 million homes in the western US are at moderate or greater wildfire risk, and their combined reconstruction cost would be $1.2 trillion. In California, more than half a million homes face a very high wildfire risk, and their combined reconstruction value exceeds $300 billion.
Seven of California's top 12 carriers have pulled back coverage since 2022, blaming wildfires, the rising costs of such threats and state regulators' refusal to approve rate hikes.
