Chief Chris Wiles has authorized the shrouding of badges in memory and honor of the four law enforcement officers who lost their lives yesterday in Charlotte, North Carolina while in the service of their community. Shrouding will be in effect until the completion of funeral services for the fallen officers.

NEWS RELEASE: MAN WANTED FOLLOWING JANUARY SHOOTING

The Danville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance locating a man charged with six felonies stemming from a shooting that occurred in the 500 block of Keen Street on January 17, 2024, where a 19-year-old male was struck.

Devonta Lewayne Dodson, 32 of Pittsylvania County, has been charged with the following:

18.2-51.2 Aggravated Malicious Wounding
18.2-51 Attempted Malicious Wounding
18.2-51.1 Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
18.2-280 Discharging a Firearm in Public
18.2-286.1 Shooting from a Vehicle
18.2-308.2 Possessing a Firearm by a Violent Felon

While the shooting on Keen Street was not a random act, Dodson is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as 6 foot, 3 inches tall, weighing 235 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.
