Guatemala Medical Mission 2027

Join Us in Bringing Essential Healthcare to Communities That Need It Most

Every day, millions of people around the world live without reliable access to healthcare. In many rural communities, a visit from a volunteer medical team is not simply convenient, it may be the only opportunity people have all year to receive medical care, health advice, or treatment.
Health & Human Services Inc. invites healthcare professionals, students, and humanitarian volunteers to join our 2027 Medical Mission to Guatemala. From July 12th-16th 2027, we will work alongside healthcare providers from Guatemala and El Salvador to deliver essential medical services to underserved communities in the Quetzaltenango region.
This mission is more than providing healthcare. It is an opportunity to work across cultures, exchange knowledge with fellow professionals, and serve people whose resilience is matched only by their need for accessible medical care.

Why Your Participation Matters
For many families we will meet, this clinic represents far more than a medical appointment. It is an opportunity to receive care that may otherwise be unavailable because of distance, financial barriers, or limited healthcare infrastructure.
By volunteering, you will not only provide essential medical services, you will contribute to improving health outcomes, strengthen partnerships across borders, and help ensure that people in underserved communities are treated with the care and respect they deserve.
Every member of the team has an important role to play. Whether you are providing direct patient care, supporting clinical operations, or assisting behind the scenes, your time, knowledge, and commitment will have a meaningful impact.

What You Can Expect
Our clinic will operate in Tierra Colorada, a rural community near Quetzaltenango (commonly known as Xela), where access to healthcare remains limited. During the four-and-a-half days of clinic operations, our team expects to provide care to approximately 1,000 to 1,500 patients.
Volunteers will work alongside an international team that includes physicians, nurses, healthcare students, and other medical professionals. Together, we will provide compassionate, coordinated care while learning from one another's experience, skills, and perspectives.
The first day may feel busy as everyone adapts to the pace and realities of delivering healthcare in a resource-limited setting. As the team settles into its workflow, collaboration becomes smoother, allowing us to serve more patients efficiently and effectively.
Whether you are an experienced healthcare provider or someone eager to contribute your skills in a humanitarian setting, you will become part of a team committed to treating every patient with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Travel Itinerary
Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights to Guatemala City International Airport (GUA), arriving no later than Saturday, the 10th of July 2027.
Upon arrival, Health & Human Services Inc. will provide ground transportation to the historic city of Antigua, where participants will spend their first evening. Antigua, one of Latin America's best-preserved colonial cities, offers an opportunity to relax, explore local markets, and become acquainted with fellow volunteers before the mission begins.

On Saturday evening, we will gather for a welcome dinner where team members will meet one another and receive an overview of the week ahead.
On Sunday, July 11th, the team will travel by bus to Quetzaltenango (Xela). During the journey, we will stop in Chichicastenango, allowing time for lunch, stretching, and exploring one of Guatemala's well-known traditional markets.

After arriving in Xela and checking into the Hotel Centenario, participants will attend another evening gathering with our Guatemalan and Salvadoran partners, including local doctors, nurses, and medical students who will work alongside us throughout the clinic.

From Monday through Friday, volunteers will travel daily to the clinic site in Tierra Colorada before returning each evening to Xela. Dinner will be provided, followed by free time to explore the city or rest after the day's work.

On Friday, July 16th, the clinic will close early to allow participants to enjoy a guided visit to a nearby local attraction before returning for a farewell dinner to celebrate the relationships built throughout the week.

On Saturday, the team will return to Antigua, where we will share one final dinner together and reflect on the mission, the people we have served, and the experiences we have shared.
Participants will depart Guatemala on Sunday, the 18th of July 2027.

Cost
The cost of participation is $1,495US per person.
This includes:
• Ground transportation between Guatemala City Airport, Antigua, Quetzaltenango, and the clinic site.
• Accommodation in Antigua and Quetzaltenango throughout the mission.
• Meals during clinic working days and all organised team dinners.
• Local transportation required for mission activities.
Alcoholic beverages are not included and remain the responsibility of each participant.
Participants who wish to arrive before July 10th or remain in Guatemala after July 18th are welcome to do so. We can assist with these arrangements for an additional cost.

Additional Information
Volunteers should budget approximately $350US for personal expenses, including souvenirs, snacks, and other incidental purchases.
While we will make every reasonable effort to accommodate dietary requirements, we cannot guarantee that every meal can meet all dietary preferences or restrictions.

Here's a question I get all the time. "What if the market crashes"?
I get it but remember real estate is a LONG term investment. Don't try to time the market. If the payment fits your lifestyle and you're planning on staying put for a few years, buying still makes sense.

In talking with a client I was told that he had heard that he should wait until the market crashes and buy cheap.
Now, that's a strategy that some investors try but the truth is, timing the market is nearly impossible. Meanwhile, people that waited years ago are now watching prices rise and are feeling stuck. If the payment fits your lifestyle today, that's a better signal than trying to wait and see what the market will do.
Remember time in the market beats timing the market.
