This time of year seniors are bombarded with marketing materials from both insurance companies and insurance agents/brokers coming to them by mail. One of the most common headlines/themes in these mailings usually contains the words Medicare Changes.

While this on it's own can already be confusing or alarming enough to cause the recipient to dial the phone number listed on the card, often with them thinking they have received this card from Medicare (spoiler alert: they did not), it is even more confusing in 2021 with Congress' proposed Social Safety Net Bill containing potential changes to Medicare.

As of now, there have been NO changes approved to Medicare for 2022. In addition, and most importantly, if approved these changes would NOT all take effect immediately. The current bill is proposing that Vision Benefits would be implemented in 2022, Hearing Benefits would be implemented in 2023, and Dental Benefits would be implemented in 2028.

Many Medicare Advantage plans already contain benefits for dental, vision, and hearing that are superior to those proposed in the bill being debated in Congress. So while the addition of these benefits may assist those on traditional Medicare it's quite possible they will have little to no effect on those with a Medicare Advantage plan.

Recently we've received calls from clients letting us know that some medical providers, i.e. some Urgent Care Facilities, are charging a co-pay as a "administrative fee" or "facility fee" when performing a COVID-19 test. This is not an approved fee as providers are not to charge ANY fees associated with COVID-19 testing. URGENT INFO FOR ROCKLAND COUNTY SENIORS: Unexpectedly, Crystal Run Healthcare has left the network for a couple of Medicare Insurance plans effective January 1st of this year. Neither of the plans' websites, or Crystal Runs' website have been updated as of today 1/9/2021. We have received reports that some have been turned away when arriving at appointments because of this. This is an issue that an experienced broker can help you to resolve very quickly and at no cost to you. Please direct message, call, or text my office if you want to confirm if your doctors are participating in your current plan.
