Original Post: .studio Obviously, modern luxury cars are faster, safer, and more advanced. Yet more and more people are choosing to drive vintage Porsches, classic Mercedes estates, and 1990s Range Rovers.

The appeal comes down to design, character, and tactile driving, rather than rejecting modern technology.

Many modern cars feel like gadgets on wheels. Vintage cars offer texture: boxy architectural lines, physical switches, analog dials, and mechanical soul.

Behind the wheel of an 80s Porsche or a Range Rover Classic, driving feels personal again. It gives you a sense of weight, patience, and deep connection to the vehicle. You feel connected to the road rather than insulated from it.

Sometimes the best weekend drive is just turning a real key and taking your time. Both worlds can exist together.

Swipe through for a selection of iconic classic car silhouettes.

Original post: - Japan’s police once patrolled the expressways in Porsche 912s, and this is the only one left on Earth. 🚔

Only four were ever built, imported by Mizwa and converted for highway duty when Japan’s expressway network was brand new. This one served the Kanagawa Prefectural Police from 1968 to 1973, running the Tomei and Daisan Keihin.

This Porsche saw over 155,000 km in five years of service, including catching a speeder running 178 km/h. Even the plate is perfect: 110, Japan’s version of dialing 911.

Retirement nearly killed it. It sat in the police academy lobby for 26 years, deteriorated, and was sold to a scrapyard in 1999 while its three siblings were destroyed.

The rescue is the best part. A former officer who first saw this car as a young cadet in that academy lobby negotiated for months to pull it from the scrapyard, then spent roughly two decades restoring it. His name is Kurabayashi, and the car you’re looking at is his life’s work.
