If you hold an individual Cigna plan, on or off exchange, it won't exist in 2027. Cigna is leaving the individual market in all 11 states where it currently sells, and more than 350,000 people are enrolled.

Your coverage doesn't stop early. The plan runs to its termination date, usually December 31, and the exit gives you a special enrollment period to pick something else.

Cigna is the largest of nine carriers that have announced exits for 2027. If your county is losing more than one, fewer carriers competing is the kind of thing that shows up in the following year's pricing.

If you're a household of one earning more than $63,840, or a family of four over $132,000, you're above the subsidy cutoff for 2027 health insurance. That's the line where a rate increase stops being partly absorbed and becomes entirely yours.

Insurers have proposed a median 15% increase for 2027. That lands on top of the 20% that was finalized for 2026.

KFF tracked what that does to one unsubsidized 40-year-old in Indianapolis earning $65,000. Their premium was $316 a month in 2025, $477 in 2026, and is projected at $546 for 2027. That's up $158 a month, or 41%, in two years.
