What a bittersweet week Iโve had.
Praying for a miracle for a colleague and friend, while also watching another friend I met because of work truly be the hands and feet of Jesus for a family they had never even met before.
Iโve been in this industry since 1991, and this really isnโt a post about work.
About eight years ago, I started working with a business coach. I wanted to learn how to grow my business and, honestly, how to become comfortable speaking in publicโone of my biggest fears.
For two years, I heard the same message:
โCast a wider net.โ
โStop trying to be friends. Theyโre clients or referral partners.โ
โYouโll make more money with a wider net.โ
Maybe that works for some people.
But after two years, I realized I was working with someone who just didnโt get me.
Maybe I could have made more money. Maybe I could have cast a wider net.
But instead, I chose to get to know the people I work with.
And they got to know me.
They know my family. They know their names. They know our stories. And when my family walked through some incredibly difficult seasonsโlosing my dad, almost losing our sonโthose โpeopleโ lifted us up in prayer and walked beside us.
Those people became my friends.
And 14+ years later, I found myself praying with a family going through an incredibly difficult time, while watching a friendโsomeone I met because of this crazy businessโshow that family love, compassion and generosity as if they had known them all along.
Watching that reminded me of something I already knew deep down:
Relationships matter. People matter. And loving people well matters.
I donโt need a wider net.
I have a heart.
And when itโs my time to go home, I hope no one remembers me as a loan officer.
I hope they remember that I loved people well. โค๏ธ
