I have lost people I love to mental health struggles and depression. More than once.
So when I talk about this, it is not theoretical for me.
Three things I want to share:
First, find connection. Pick up the phone and call the friend you have been meaning to call. Go to that fraternity meeting, that lodge meeting, that gathering you have been skipping. Go to church and sit with people who care about you in a faith-based space. Sitting alone with your thoughts is not always the healthiest way to carry life's weight.
Second, I believe in prayer. I also believe that sometimes the answer to a prayer looks like a therapist. A counselor. Medication that was prescribed to you for a reason. Those are not separate from healing. They can be the healing.
Third, as a CFP® professional, I often think about this statistic. Nearly 7 in 10 Americans say financial uncertainty has left them feeling depressed or anxious.
Money stress and mental health are more closely connected than people talk about. If finances are weighing on you, that is not something to carry alone either. Resources and conversations exist for that too.
You are not alone. I mean that. ❤️
