After the loss of a spouse, a divorce, or the sale of a business, the pressure to make big financial decisions often arrives before the dust has settled. Sell the house? Move the investments? Pay off the mortgage?

Sometimes the wisest first step is deciding what can wait. Giving yourself room to understand what you have, what you owe, and what you want next can help you avoid choices you'd make differently with a clearer head.

Our wealth transition services are built for these moments. From inheritance planning and business succession to rebuilding financial confidence after loss or separation, we guide families with compassion and clarity, handle the transactional details, and set up guardrails so you can focus on what matters most.

Year-end is when many families finalize their giving. This year, the rules behind those gifts look different.

Starting in 2026, itemizers can deduct charitable gifts only to the extent they exceed 0.5% of adjusted gross income. Meanwhile, taxpayers who take the standard deduction can now deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for joint filers) in cash gifts to qualifying charities. For many households, that changes the math on when to give, how much, and how.

At Optima Asset Management, we start with your why: the causes you care about and the impact you want to have. From there, we help you choose a giving pathway that fits, whether that means gifting appreciated securities, opening a donor-advised fund, setting up a charitable trust, or establishing a family foundation, and we walk you through the tax advantages and legal requirements of each.

Optima Asset Management is honored to be named a 2026 Top Wealth Manager by D Magazine, featured in the magazine's October issue.

D Magazine invited wealth management firms from the Dallas-Fort Worth chapters of the Financial Planning Association, CFA Institute, and Investments & Wealth Institute to share data about their practices. A panel of local wealth managers reviewed submissions that met the program's requirements, and D Magazine's editorial team determined the final list.

For more than 30 years, we've stayed independent, 100% employee-owned, and focused on managing every client's wealth the way we'd manage our own family's. Recognition from our peers here in Dallas-Fort Worth means a great deal. Thank you to our clients for their trust and to our team for the work behind it.

No payment was made to be included in this ranking.

Strong political views are normal, especially in an election year. Letting them steer your portfolio is where the trouble starts.

Political conviction comes from your values. Investment conviction comes from fundamentals and valuations. When the first starts making decisions for the second, the risk runs both ways. If the other party wins, the temptation is to exit emotionally. If your party wins, you may be tempted to take on more risk than your plan calls for. Either way, the election is making the decision instead of your plan.

In our latest webinar, Archie Ponce, CFP®, explains why your reaction to election results can pose more risk to your portfolio than the results themselves.

If you filed an extension on your 2025 taxes, October 15 is the date to know. For business owners, it's also a quieter second deadline.

You can still make SEP IRA contributions for 2025 through your extended filing deadline, and the same goes for employer contributions to a solo 401(k). If your business had a strong year, that window gives you one more chance to direct part of 2025's income toward retirement on a tax-deferred basis.

It's also a good moment to ask a bigger question: is your current retirement plan still the right fit for your business? At Optima Asset Management, we work with business owners on retirement plan selection, cash flow, and tax strategy, coordinating with your CPA so your business and personal finances are planned together, not separately.

The markets have rewarded patient, long-term investors over time. The hard part is tuning out the day-to-day noise. President Paul Lightfoot shares the key principles behind a stronger long-term investment experience: let markets work for you, resist the urge to chase performance or time the market, and focus on what you can actually control. Watch to learn why simple, time-tested habits often outperform reacting to the headlines.

There's a version of financial planning that only kicks in once you've "made it." But for business owners and executives, waiting for the right moment to start can be the most costly decision you make.

Archie Ponce, CFP®, walks through why early planning matters beyond retirement, from harnessing the power of compounding to avoiding lifestyle inflation and costly missteps that arise from not having a plan in place before big financial decisions.

Running a family enterprise can start to feel like running a company. Property management, tax coordination, philanthropic strategy, staff oversight- the decisions pile up fast, and each one needs to be both correct and timely.

Just as a company relies on a CFO to keep its leadership's vision moving forward, a large family estate often needs its own version of that role. Paul Lightfoot, CFP®, breaks down what a personal CFO actually does, from day-to-day bill pay and real estate oversight to coordinating your tax, legal, and investment teams so nobody is working from a different playbook.
