Good morning! It's North Texas Giving Day! That means that, for many small nonprofits, this is one of the biggest opportunities of the year to raise unrestricted funds! Unrestricted funds are what we use to "keep the lights on", so to speak!

This year, I am raising money for Over the Bridge Arts! I am Board President, and I care so deeply about what we do. It's very easy to focus on nonprofits that are easy to understand, like battling heart disease and education, but THE ARTS MATTER!

Did you know, that attending at least one arts event per month can have a significant positive impact on mental health. Research has shown that engaging in artistic activities can reduce the likelihood of experiencing depression by up to 60%?

At Over the Bridge Arts, we SUPPORT NEW ARTISTS AND PRODUCE NEW WORK. This is so important in a changing landscape of how we tell stories and WHOSE STORIES WE ARE TELLING. Please consider donating to Over the Bridge Arts today. Any amount helps!

Hey everyone! The Writer's Garret presents Dallas Is Lit! Literary Festival next week! Dallas Is Lit! is 20 events this year that take place in venues all over Oak Cliff! Take a look at the line-up and RSVP to events that you would like to attend! Some events are ticketed, some are free. There are adult events and family friendly events. There are even multi-lingual events! So many poeple have worked so hard to make this festival a reality for the second year in a row. My event is the Book & Auther Fair at Turner House next weekend on Saturday the 18th. There's live music, food trucks, a raffle that it live now (you can go to the event and see the items), book related vendors, authors, and the Dallas Public Library will even be there! Please come out to the some or all of the festival events! Dallas Is Lit!!

Who must file Form 1065? It must be filed by all business partnerships, including multimember limited liability companies (LLCs) that have not elected to be treated as a corporation. Business partnerships include any business owned by two or more people, even if no formal partnership agreement has been made.

Every May, National Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is celebrated to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869 (the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants).

Among the AAPI communities’ contributions to America’s rich heritage are:

Birthright Citizenship: After a year-long battle between Wong Kim Ark (born in San Francisco to Chinese immigrants) and the U.S. Justice Department, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1898 that children born in America to foreigners were U.S. citizens.
Technology: Taiwanese American Jerry Yang co-founded the web portal Yahoo! and Taiwanese American Steven Chen co-founded the video-sharing platform YouTube.
Architecture: Chinese American I.M. Pei designed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Pyramid at the Louvre in Paris. Japanese American Minoru Yamasaki designed the original World Trade Center.
Fashion: Chinese American fashion designer Vera Wang is best known for her bridal wear, and Thailand born designer Phillip Lim and his partner, Wen Zhou, grew their fledgling start-up to a successful international fashion brand.
